The Home That We Share

I was watching a fly moving lazily on my ceiling last night while I was reading in bed. I didn't care if it was there. It made me think of how we share our homes. We live with people - spouses, children, sometimes parents and extended family, roommates and friends. We also live with our pets - furred, feathered or other. But we share our homes with so many more than we realize. Like the fly on my ceiling and those spiders in the cracks and crevices we often would rather not know about and the mice in the attic or under the porch. Like the microbes and germs (still living things) we may not welcome but they are there nonetheless. I'm not one to kill things I see with the exception of mosquitoes so I just accept the critters in my home or else show them out the door. I almost forgot the plants. We live gladly with them too. It's like a diverse community. Maybe we are all really connected after all.

with the heat we've been havin' most all critters outdoors seem most intent'n movin' indoors where there's a/c. i usually leave 'em be, but've jest no tolerance fer grass spiders who're's big's my hand! no trap 'n release coz there's nothin' big 'nough to catch 'em with..without 'em runnin' up one's arm anyhow. i think 'tis best that mankind learn to get 'long with most'f mother natures critters though, they've all a role'n place'n this world.

Yikes, a spider as big as my hand would not be welcome. I agree there's a role for all of God's creatures.

@jaboUK - I'm a little iffy about mosquitoes. They are a source of food for birds and fish and bats but I think we all could live without them :))

@suziecat7 @crazyhorseladycx You think even mosquitoes have a worthy role?

I won't accept spiders or flies, they have to go

I usually try to bring the spiders outside if I see them - hate to squish them. Thankfully there are very seldom flies that get in. The one on my ceiling seemed pretty sluggish and I haven't seen it since. But I'm also not very fond of bugs.

We'd probably be surprised at the number of things we share our homes with.

Yup, more than we like to think about, I'd imagine.
