There are Certain Things We Should Keep to Ourselves, but Otherwise it can be Beneficial to Share the Rest.

If you have friends, or family members, or co-workers that can't listen to what you share without spreading it around, it's best to keep what you don't want broadcast to yourself. Then you don't have to wonder who it was that didn't keep their mouth shut.
But, otherwise, if the information you're sharing isn't hurtful to anyone, it can be beneficial to share that even if it may be talked about for a long time to come. It's a decision each of us makes daily.
I mentioned to a customer that we did two days ago and that we had to go back to finish the job that I got blood all over my floors from my stupid mistake. I told her that we'd be working on removing the carpeting from the bedroom, living room and hallway rather than spend a lot of money to clean it.
She said that her sister had a similar catastrophe with blood and the insurance company replaced all the carpeting affected. That sister also accidentally spilled some bleach on a different carpeted floor, and the insurance paid to have that replaced also.
So, instead of me beginning the process of removing the carpet, I'll be calling the insurance company to see if that is covered in our policy. If so, it will be an easier way to replace carpet that has seen it's last days even before I spurted all over it yesterday.
When my husband shared about this at work today a different customer said the same thing to him as well.
We've needed new carpeting since we've moved in fifteen years ago, but with all the hospital bills we still owe, I've not expected we could do this. If it works out that way, if will be nice.

We had a flood one time and it was covered and we got two lovely new floors from it. Hope you luck out and get the same. And I hope whomever hurt themselves is alright. :)

It was me, Linda. I pulled a boo-boo, by taking off a scab on a vein that wasn't fully healed. It's been sutured and those will come out in two weeks. Until then, I'm keeping the area covered. It seems to be doing fine.

@MarymargII Maybe I'll get some of that once the sutures are out if it's closed up enough.

@MarshaMusselman Well yes- it sounds sore and hope some TLC will help! Tea tree oil is good for healing too!

It would be nice to have the carpet replaced by the insurance.

@koopharper Not necessarily, or at least not for me.

They told me to get an estimate of a replacement or cleaning and if it was higher than the deductible then... Then what? I don't know he didn't say. I'm guessing I get the estimate first and then we'll see whether they would consider it or not.
We've talked about getting a wood floor in the living room rather than carpet, but I don't know whether they'd pay for that or not. I guess we'll have to get two estimates and then see what might work out, or not.

Correct, but we've never used it yet and it doesn't hurt to ask to find out first before we begin working on it ourselves.

@MarshaMusselman I completely agree because you have nothing to lose and a great deal to gain.

I'm hoping the same thing too. If we come up with a price for the two rooms and they deduct the deductible from that amount, it may still be enough to cover the main room which is the living room and we'd have to replace the bedroom carpet ourselves later on.
When I know more, I'll share later on.

So do I. We still have to measure the rooms and then figure out the cost before seeing whether they will help with covering everything or not. I don't know what my deductible is yet, I'm hoping it's not more than five hundred dollars, but haven't a clue at this point.

I would never have considered the possibility either. And it's not etched in gold yet, but we were told to get an estimate and we'd go from there.

Sometimes good things come out of bad situations and this just may be one of them.

This would be the first time in all the years we've had insurance that we've ever had any type of claim. I'd make sure my insurance premium didn't go up too much if at all first.
I'll be working on cutting out the carpet myself anyway even if we don't get it replaced right now. Then we'd hope the wood underneath is in decent condition. At least it will be better than the carpet the way it is right now.

I hope so too. I have to watch and not let them know that it's needed to be replaced for as long as it has. I'm thinking it may be over sixty years old, the carpet I mean. I could be wrong, but I know it's at least twenty years old if not more. It looks the same as when I visited when a child, but they may have replaced it with identical carpeting, I'm not sure about that.
