Son of a Horse Lord?

*cough* family ancestry *cough* ^ That was the warning, for those who don't care for the stuff.. Found a website wherein a "cousin of sorts" gave extensive research findings of the Eachain line, one of the many variants of my maiden surname. Apparently, the ancestral line can be traced back to 240's AD. Of course not much can be found, but it's traced back that far. I come from The Picts and was able to find out when my ancestors moved around. Even found that we have a castle that is still in existence, but can't find a good picture of it. Also, it seems it's more of a "manor house" than anything. Mac means "son of" and Eachain is "horse" though I've also seen it as "Horse Lord." It seems I come from a long line of leaders of the Pict clans. As history goes on, and circumstances change, it seems that the ancestors keep with titles. One even had the high honor of carrying the King's flag wherever he (The King) might go.... I still have a lot more to read about it but am glad I found a valid source all the same.

The Pictish tribes occupied the northern regions of Scotland and were believed to be of Celtic descent, so any such castle would be in that area.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It seems that Robert McLellen of Barnagachan was banished to America on board a slave ship in 1685. I wonder if there is any connection.

@Asylum Yes, I found that too and wondered the same. I am not sure if McLellen is an ancestor of sorts, or perhaps just fortunate enough to pick up the place after it was lost from my line. I've seen images of what is called "McLellen's Castle" and wondered if it was one in the same. In the documentation I have says the Barmagachan place was in a "U" shape.

Yes, I have the name of the castle. The research (others) that I was reading seems to be dated around the 1980's. It could very well be that it's no longer in existence, nearly 30 years has gone by after all. Barmagachan is the name of the castle / manor house. The ancestors moved to Ireland after being promised land to any man who would fight with some person or another (I forget who now) to keep his own lands.

I was lucky in that someone has already done the extensive research for me. It took me awhile to find it but I'm glad I did. I'm sure you'll find something that will get you on the track for things you wish to know.
