Surgery!

I'm sure you're all sick of hearing about me and the wisdom tooth surgery saga....but it's actually happening! Soon, as in Tuesday morning! I met the first surgeon I was going to interview on Thursday afternoon and decided to go ahead and have her do the surgery. She is a bit lacking in the people skills department but she's a surgeon - they tend to be that way. She was able to turn what I thought was a major surgery into a more run of the mill, I do this every day, type thing. Given that I've been in daily pain from the wisdom teeth since Friday and have needed to take pain medication each day - Tuesday can't come soon enough!

Why do you need surgery? Can't you just have the teeth pulled out as normal?

Mine are impacted, which means they never came in. They are under my gums and partially still incased in bone. This is pretty common with wisdom teeth apparently.

@Mike197602 My surgery is costing $1,160, after my dental insurance is covering a part of it. I've been told it's not going to be so bad. 2-4 days of feeling bad and my face being swollen. I've already made plans for next weekend.

@Lolaze I need some dental work and it will cost £16k so I feel for you. Getting teeth fixed is painful and very expensive

@Lolaze I'm sending you good vibes, girl! Dental technology is cool these days--not like when I was a child when Dentists used a hammer and a plier.

I think they still use a chisel on wisdom teeth! Thankfully, I'll be knocked out so I don't care what they use on me!

@akalinus I'm getting a nice pill to take a few hours before surgery to make me feel loopy, then they are totally knocking me out via IV meds for the actual surgery.

I remember spending an afternoon with a dentist using a jackhammer. My wisdom teeth were impacted also but he just handed me two pills and said take these. I don't know what good they did because I was not having any fun there.

I've been told I'll be totally fine after 2-4 days. What was your experience?

@IvySaysHi I will be having dissolvable stitches so hopefully that will help a bit.
