I'm Hooked on HGTV

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend, I went to visit my kids, who are staying with my parents for the summer, about a 4-hour drive south of where I live. My parents love watching HGTV, so while I was there that was pretty much the only channel we watched at night out in the living room. Most of the time, we were all conversing or playing board games or doing other fun stuff, and the TV was just on in the background, but on occasion we all cozied up on the couch and watched a few episodes of whatever show was playing at the time. At first, I kind of groaned at having to watch all those boring "property" and "real estate" and "house hunting" types of shows, but as the long weekend wore on, I started getting interested in the shows a little more. By the time the holiday weekend was over and I headed home, I started to kind of like many of the shows on HGTV that we had watched. Needless to say, over this past week I have been watching HGTV every night, and I have become a big fan of the network. I've always been fascinated with real estate, and many of their shows deal with the subject (Property Brothers, Flip or Flop, House Hunters, etc). I think I am now hooked on HGTV!
Do you enjoy the HGTV network, and if so, what are your favorite shows on that channel?

@moffittjc I recently noticed we have House Hunters here. I like shows like that. Same with the Flip or Flop. That's cool. And another one called Fixer Upper. That's an awesome one to watch.

I love watching House Hunters and Flip or Flop. Fixer Upper is my absolute favorite, though! I love, love. love Chip and Joanna Gaines, the hosts of the show! They are such a cute couple! Chip is such a goofball, he is always doing silly and funny things!

@VivaLaDani13 That's right! Fixer Upper is filmed in Texas! In Waco, TX to be more specific! Where does your friend live in Texas?

@moffittjc Yeah it's awesome. I never used to know about that show until my Texan friend told me about it because his cousin was on Fixer Upper. Which is just so groovy.

@HazySue Me too! I've been watching several of those shows where American couples have searched for housing in Mexico and South America, and I find it interesting to see that--for the most part--real estate is very similar all over the world. But like you said, it's always nice to see the different design trends that are in houses in other parts of the world.

@moffittjc I think it's rewarding to do what I can myself. I just recently pulled up carpeting and laid some tiles and I just love it :))

@suziecat7 I've laid wood floors before (both wood and laminate), but I've never laid tile before. I was looking at some beautiful tile in Lowe's yesterday that looked so much like wood flooring! I would love to have tile throughout my home, but I don't know how to lay tile and how much time and effort it takes! Definitely something I need to learn!

I am in the process of ramping up my intentions to buy a house within the next six months. At first, I was only looking for more upscale houses with all the latest upgrades, but now as I watch HGTV more and more, I'm thinking of getting a cheaper fixer-up and then doing a renovation. I've already come up with tons of ideas, and ways to do things cheaper, just based off of what I've seen on HGTV!

Other than Lifetime movies my tv is usually on HGTV. My husband calls it my 'building houses' channel.

It is definitely the right channel to give people inspiration for building, remodeling, or purchasing properties!

@moffittjc That's why my husband would prefer I not watch HGTV!

@AbbyGreenhill My teenage daughter loves watching HGTV as well, and she loves the Tiny Houses shows. I think she is absolutely convinced that I should get a tiny house now! lol

It is my favorite station. I love everything Sarah Richardson. But now, they only show reruns of her programs, and those are few and far between (mostly very late at night). Her fans are ticked off that all of her new shows only appear on HGTV Canada.

I haven't heard of, or seen, any Sarah Richardson shows. But then again, I just stared watching the network a week ago, so I'm sure there is still much more for me to learn!

@moffittjc If you are curious, set your DVR using her name as a Keyword. Let the machine find her shows.

@ElizabethWallace Unfortunately, I don't have a DVR. I don't watch tv enough to justify the need for one.

Yes, I'm hooked on it too. I think my favorite is the renovation couple from Waco Texas. I also like the Property Brothers. You know they're twins, right? I can sit and watch it by the hour, or listen to it, if I've seen them before.

Omg...I was just watching a marathon of the couple from Waco, and for the life of me I can't remember their names! lol
But I know exactly who you are referring to, and they are one of my favorites too! And yes, Property Brothers is what first got me hooked on the network Drew and Jonathan are hilarious and do such a great job on their shows!

@moffittjc Chip and Joanna - had to look it up. Yes, I love the back and forth between Drew and Jonathon. The other show I love is Love It or List it, but with the original duo. All the shows on there are GREAT!
You're in serious trouble if you're watching marathons. You're really hooked!

I don't recall ever seeing Flip or Flop unless they are the husband and wife team where one does a make over and the other one wants the people to buy another house.

I love both of those shows! I also really like Flip or Flop, not because I like shows about flipping houses, because I really like the shows hosts, Tarek and Christina. They are such a fun couple, and they have charisma and great chemistry.

Obviously this isn't a channel I can watch, but I do enjoy a good 'housey' programme if I'm in the right frame of mind. My interest seems to be pure nosy-ness. I love a good gander at how other folk live!

Maybe that's part of the appeal of why I like the network so much, and all the shows they broadcast. I get to get a glimpse into how other people live, how other houses are decorated, and what is trendy and what is not. I would tend to call my interest in this as "research" more than "nosey-ness!" lol
