Yesterday I received my cable bill in the mail. I opened it up and almost dropped to the floor. My bill went up to over $200.00 per month. I was simply floored. There was no forewarning no nothing. I hadn't changed anything in my service so I was quite peeved at the increase. So, I picked up the phone and gave them a call. I was nice and polite, knowing that you get more cooperation when you are. I let them know that there was no way I could afford to pay this much for cable. They transferred me to someone who could help me get the bill down. She was wonderful. We talked back and forth about the reason my bill went up. apparently a special I had was now expired and I was being billed the full price. She looked around and found me a better deal for less money. I now have the same services, internet, phone, and cable, plus more stations, for about 60 dollars less per month. That's a deal I can live with. Of course, 12 months from now I will probably be receiving a bill for it all at the standard price. I wrote the date down when it expires and will call a couple of weeks before that to arrange another deal. Truthfully, if they couldn't bring that bill down I would have been looking around for a new cable provider. What about you? Would you look for a better deal with a different provider?

About 2 years ago or so I canceled my cable, now I have none. I have netflix and free tv and it's good enough for me. So we went from about 200 a month to 12 a month for netflix.

@HazySue I live about 50 miles south of Chicago so we had to get a digital antenna and it works pretty good. My son is a student so he gets Amazon Prime for 25 bucks a year and I can use that as well. So never again will I subscribe to Cable tv,

The same thing happened to us here, after talking to the company I came out with a better deal too as they did not want to lose our account.

I had a terrible experience with cable customer service the other day. We set up an automatic payment and they took it out earlier than we agreed, and they overdrew our bank account. Then, they screwed up on their end and had our router configured not to allow WiFi! It took an hour to fix and they were so unapologetic about the billing issue. They wanted to set up another auto payment! I'm glad you had much better luck with them and your bill came down! :) We pay $90 just for internet!

@cpef;ey I don't let them take any payment out because of the problem you ran across. They don't always do it when they say they are going to. That's a lot of money for just internet. Actually, that's highway robbery.

We have few choices on cable (Comcast etc) and satellite providers (Dish, Direct). High prices are why they are losing customers in droves to Netflix and exclusive streaming. A major part of those high bills are sports fees. Every customer is extorted money for NFL, MLB, NBA etc whether you are a fan or not. That's how teams pay LeBron James $30 million a year. They get the money from TV providers who in turn pass the cost to you. You and the rest of American who subscribe to any cable/satellite provider are in essence paying for all athlete salaries.

@JohnRoberts there are many stations that we never watch but you pay through the nose for them anyway.
