Those letters stand for “Getting Out and Staying Out.” Mark Goldsmith came up with this program that works with male inmates in prison between the ages of 18-24. After, Goldsmith visited Rikers Island Prison in New York City and talked to a group of inmates, he said he was impressed by their intelligence, but was worried about their futures. This program assists inmates during their stay in prison and even after they are released. If they stay with the program, the results have been excellent. Only about 10% of these men who have gone through this program have gone back to prison. Programs like this should be supported by all citizens. Goldsmith admitted to the men that he understood their challenges, because he himself was very confused at their age. What do you think? Picture of Folsom Prison by Pixabay

This is a great problem and a 90% success rate is pretty awesome.

I think it is a great idea. It is sure to lower the percentage of returns to prison. One mistake should not have to be paid for over and over.

That sure is a grim looking place. I am all such programs as they can work for sure. Lots of young men make terrible errors but can turn their lives around and become sound productive citizens. My own hubby got in trouble at 16 spent a year in prison, and turned his life completely around. He said I was his best friend and we were best friends. I know young men can be saved if given some help.

I think it is great to have rehabilitation programs for prisoners. The more that get out of the system and stay out, the better.
