During a response and rebuttal with a fellow follower @Marcyaz on mylot, I heard (metaphorically speaking - which is a double metaphor because clearly we cannot speak here) the phrase "Lip Service" . . one which I have not heard in ages. Brilliant idiom!! "Lip Service" is an idiom meaning (chiefly when following 'to pay' ) 'giving approval or support insincerely" - kind of forgetting to put your money where your mouth is! Do you come across great phrases and idioms in your daily chats that enhance your thinking of situations? Words that pass my ears, and in this case pass my eyes, have me more and more interested in hearing and seeing more words as I grow older. Should I tell this to my grandchildren so they dont forget the wonders of words? If a picture paints a thousand words, what impact does one real word have? My photo is of a mural on the side of a building in France Plainfaing regions. They are beautiful and make the towns very colourful.

i've most always been'n love with words 'n the magic way that some can spin'em so well. where one can read'n then close their eyes'n "see", they're so descriptive there's no need fer more. that bein' said, i hope ya do instill this love with yer grands - what a legacy to pass 'long :) those murals're simply stunnin' pieces'f artwork. what great fortune to've 'em there. sure's heck beats a blank wall any ol' day, eh?

Yes, a picture can paint a thousand words and a word can also paint as many 'pictures' depending on the skill of the speaker. Lip service is one of the best examples of that.

We loved the paintings and murals on the walls in Europe too.
