"Dont mess with Texas!" is the first instruction I read on the flip side of this hilarious and very informative postcard! I think Texas is the first of the American states to confess that any lingo spoken in Texas is certainly not the normal English but by translation looks kinda colourful! Very aptyly the postcard is addressed to Lany "Inlemay" O, which has now got my Town tongue-wagging as my pseudonym has become an official name at the post-office. No hiding behind a name anymore, not that I ever did! Every postcard I get, I google it history so that I can become better aquainted with the senders homeland. Texas is alot like my own country - going through the change overs of Spanish to many other different cultures before becoming what it is today. The flags of the states give much symbolism and I have chosen to give that as the history lesson with the card of Texan Translations. Ol'Glory . . . . . "The Texas Flag Code assigns the following symbolism to the colors of the Texas flag: blue stands for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery. The code also states that single (lone) star "represents ALL of Texas and stands for our unity as one for God, State, and Country." Reading all this brought to mind many a Western Movie watched in my teenage years, because since then Western Movies have been rather scarce. "The Lone Star Ranger is a Western novel published by Zane Grey in 1915. The book takes place in Texas, the Lone Star State, and several main characters are Texas Rangers, a famous band of highly capable law enforcement officers. It follows the life of Buck Duane, a man who becomes an outlaw and then redeems himself in the eyes of the law." You all might remember 'Walker Texas Ranger' played by the famous Chuck Norris, who has yet to become anyone else but that! Great entertainment with the tales of Texas. Love the armadillo as a House Pet - which later turns into a SNACK! Dress'n up takes me to a routine I love to dance when out with the girls "five, six, seven eight . . My boot scootin' baby is drivin' me crazy" can you just imagine it? Sun Block - is as my sun block is - a HAT! So are the Pickles chillied? Chili served in a delicious chili con carne will have you warm to the ears or otherwise an outdoor "barbecue" as we say in SA - Braai, presents itself with the perfect description for Steak and veggies which is a man size steak by my own hubby's definition too! The only one that has me a little weary is the Brown Sauce bottle called "Champagne" ? How do we translate that? Well I hope you have all enjoyed my little history play on the State of Texas - which is 'Home, Sweet Home' to our darling Yellow Rose of Texas girl Jessa Lyn! "She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee But the Yellow Rose of Texas is the only girl for me." Howdy Partner . . ya'll have a good one! Loving these postcards!

I loved so much this postcard that I am sure I have sent it from Texas to at least two of my friends. I love this song.

I love the Yellow Rose of Texas - another reminder of my dad - he seems to be so prominent in my mind of late.

As a D*mned Yankee who's lived her entire life in Texas, I've gotta say that the post card has a lot going for it. Those "pickles" are jalapenos, hot stuff, but I've seen folks just eat them like they are nothing. I can't even bear to get the juice on my skin because it gives me blisters! A drop or two of hot sauce in a large dish is about all I can tolerate. Of course, I live in Austin which is about the most liberal of the state's cities. It is also the 4th largest city in the State and the 11th in the country. Texas is the 2nd largest state in population, behind California... honestly, in the winter it might even surpass California because of the snow birds...

It did its rounds at the dinner table - everyone had a chuckle about a few of the 'translations' especially the pet that becomes the snack!

Don't mess with Texas is practically the official logo of the state. Stop at a state visitors center and you can get bumper stickers with that on them.

Strange that you should mention Walker Texas Ranger because that is on my television right now. Texas must have appeared in television and movies more than most states due to the combination of westerns and the Alamo.
