You Won't Believe This One!

My son who lives about an hour from me, stopped by today for about an hour. He told me the strangest thing.
We were talking about my youngest son’s cat. He’s getting old. He’s about 13 years old and my daughter-in-law dearly loves him. I know she’s going to be really sad when he dies.
Anyway, my son, who was visiting has a totally blind cat. This cat has no eyes. He was born without eyes and yet he gets around like you wouldn’t believe.
So my son told me today that this cat came up to him in the yard recently, carrying in his mouth, would you believe, a humming bird? He dropped the humming bird at my son’s feet and the bird flew away, unharmed, but can you imagine that a totally blind cat could catch a humming bird? This cat climbs up and down trees and goes into the woods and all around the yard and knows his way around the inside of their house.
He usually sleeps on their bed at night.
Isn’t that crazy?

It is very amazing. My son says that cat can do just about anything that a seeing cat can do.

@IreneVincent I guess some of his other senses are really highly developed.

You know, that kind of doesn't surprise me at all. I've heard a lot of really neat stories about how humans have adapted to their disabilities, and it seems like a cat who's been blind since birth would learn to navigate its world without that sense just fine. I wouldn't doubt that its other senses are a bit more sharp than usual to make up for the lack of sight.

Yes, that has to be the case. Adapting to his circumstances. Humans do it, like you said.

Yes, I can't imagine how a blind cat could possibly catch the hummingbird and I am also glad that he didn't kill it.

critters, like humans, 've a great ability to adapt. i'm glad his cat didn't harm the wee one, i'm most partial to those hummers.

Yes, me too. The cat must have heard the hummer. I still think it's amazing.

Yes, this cat continues to amaze me, when my son tells me all the things that it can do.
