Rehabilitating our old tree house

Today Sunday we have decided to rehabilitate our tree house, I built it during the late 80's or early 90's when I was still single using scrap metal from a ship, well it had seen better times but it had been neglected and almost forgotten and the mango tree had eaten some parts of it now embedded in the trunk and so full of dried leaves. Wife and I have decided to bring it back to life and to her glory days lol! and the children are quite excited. Do you have something that you have neglected or forgotten and suddenly realized how lucky i am to have it? Well we would be enjoying fresh mangoes again while enjoying the cool breeze on a hot day once all these is done. Yes that's my wife doing some fixin

My wife and I are compatible when it comes to making, fixing and cleaning we are both DIY, we only spend when there is something that we cannot really do. She is really "astig" (tough)coming from Mindanao and astig in business but also a typical quiet Filipina who makes taking care of the children and her family a hobby lol

@epiffanie yes I know, I heard that you have to be licensed electrician just to change your bulb, money there is easier but stricter, the reverse here, i wonder which is more fun

@louievill Here in Australia , we have to ask permission from the council (municipal hall) if we want to build anything in our backyard including a tree house ..

What a great idea to rehabilitate your tree house. I never had one, but I would have loved to have one when I was a kid. Your wife is a very nice woman.

It's never too late, I want to enjoy it while I still can, climb I mean, yes she's very nice and simple but hard working, I would have a difficult time if I did not married somebody like her, she's super woman, after doing something like that she would still go inside and make us a cup of coffee

For the meantime it's making it safe and usable with whatever materials we have, that's the top priority. It was just a sudden decision we made after going to church so it's not part of the budget

@louievill We just used old lumber and had boards on the tree to get up to it. Remember how old I am and we used what we had at the time. But it was fun.

Wow! I'd love to stay in a tree house. Hihihi I have a friend who used to have a tree house. They had two, and were interconnected. They already had their rooms and all their needs there but were razed by fire.

Ours is made of steel, my concern is lightning, anyway there are much taller structures around that would be hit first. It is also somewhat connected to our roof so i can easily transfer if i want to check my solar panels or if i have to do repairs.

@louievill WOw! It's great that it is connected to your roof. Just hope it will not be hit by lightning. My friend's treehouse was too big. It was about four levels, and the other one was also big, but only one level, for accepting visitors.

Thank you for the compliment, but we seem to slow down a bit, again because we have important things we have to attend to, we send 3 children to private education and you know how expensive that would be in our country, the next phase might be next year when my eldest graduates college, yes will keep you posted

WOW! Aren't mango trees inhabited by colonies of bull ants?! Yes, my children built a tree house sometime ago. A rope swing with a tire tied on another tree. We also have a plum tree near our veranda. They nestle on the branches and read their books up there. Do let us know how it's coming along with your surviving tree house :-)

Yep, those ants make nest up there so we are bringing up cans with dried mango leaves to smoke em out. I have seen tree houses here similar to yours and it looks like fun. Ours also serves similar to a veranda cause it overlooks the main road since our property is a corner lot with one side facing the main road It's also an access if you want to transfer to the main roof of the house and have fun there too lol Will keep you posted

@everwonderwhy the other tree is a Santol, its very sentimental to us, my aunt, the sister of my late father planted it, she was a doctor who practiced medicine with her husband for a long time in New york, when she was ill and dying, she went back here and ate the santol fruit that she missed, and planted the seed, that is that tree and my aunt passed away in the States.

Wow a couple that fix things together really do stay together. It's a shame my cousin who built the wooden terrace is now being terrorize by termites. We will find a way to get it fix soon, when we have the money. I hope to see updates on your tree house.

You do not have to spend much if you know how to source in junkshops and those who demolish old structures, terrace is cool, don't leave it to rot, you can bring your plants there and make your own hanging garden

I did mine with the help of a welder worker. Oh attempts we made when we were kids did not always come out as planned but it taught as a lot. My similar experience to yours is putting up a basketball ring and board on a part of my dad's garrage, turned out awful

It's higher than our bungalow style house, its sturdy since some parts are already embeded in the tree and it was built from good steel from a ship that was scrapped, the flooring i mean. Built in the late 80's, it has survived numerous super typhoons. Even outlived my trusted welder who helped me build it when i was still single.
