This beautiful sign depicts a mansion-like country house which is not surprising given that it adorns what was just such a property and proves to be a very good likeness of the house, now serving both a public bar and as the 19th hole of the public golf course. (golf courses have 18 holes to play and the 19th is where golfers drink after the game).
Strictly speaking, the Old Hall is really the New Hall, as the original moated stately home from 1560 had vanished by the time cartographers surveyed the area in 1838.
No record survives of the reason for its demolition. The baronial Timperleys had lorded over the area since the 12th century.
The golf course was for members only from its opening in 1896 to going public in 1935 when the estate and its golf course was sold to Altrincham Council for over £2 million. It is possibly the poshest drinking establishment in the North West of England.

@sunilparthan not working a stately home but it is both a public pub and a public golf course house-bar

The 19th hole is one of the best things about playing golf!

@teamfreak16 never tried the other 18 lol! Played crazy golf and pitch & put but never golf - strikes me as frightfully dull

Looks like quite the stately structure. I imagine his Lordship hoisting a pint following a strenuous round of golf.
