One of the Not-So-Fun Elements of Living with Mental Illness

Living with a severe mental illness makes every day difficult, but it also makes the big things even bigger. Everyone here basically knows I had a month and a half of daily, severe panic attacks leading up to the surgery to have my wisdom teeth out. On top of the normal swelling, pain, and annoyances of recovery - I've had to deal with the mental health aspect of it as well. I'm not sure if it's been the stress or the medication I was given as anesthesia and for pain, but I've been dealing with hallucinations since surgery.
Beginning in just the hours after arriving home from surgery, I was plagued by the sound of a constantly ringing telephone. It's just finally died down today, so that was 5 full days of it. At times it was so loud it kept me from being able to fall asleep. It was very annoying! Just another example of how everything has an extra challenge to it when you throw in mental illness.

oh i know. i had the ringing thing going on and off when stressed and unable to sleep. only thing saves you is if someone can be helpful and care enough to help you through it. my mother and daughters and even one son has had the same stress factor. so glad it is calming down some for you. i do hope you can get through all this.

My oldest son suffers from schizophrenia. We were told that prior to receiving medication he had a tremendously difficult time getting to sleep because he couldn't just turn the voices off. He is doing better but it would be nice to be free of the medication.
