Silly Brownie

I couldn't help but take this picture of Brownie. He was so relaxed and sleeping away, upside down, on the couch. I know some of you want me to give updates on how he's doing. The vet actually has not made any more mentions of the amputation, so we aren't sure if that is just a given that it should be done or what. They had said in the beginning that it was advisable due to the paw being dead and it wouldn't ever come back to life. A couple times ago the vet said that one more bandaging and then he could go without it, but then some skin started growing over. They talked about cutting it away. Ouch! When he came home yesterday after a new bandage change and wanted out to go potty. When he came back in, his boot, as we call it was off. hhmmm. I didn't know what his paw would look like under it, but it doesn't look bad at all. In fact, it doesn't look broken, or dead. I take it the way it's healing back that he can stand on it, since he was doing just that. Now, when he ran to the kitchen he lifted it up to run. Liz is going to ask the vet on the amputation. If it's not totally necessary we may leave that alone. At this point we have enough in the Brownie savings account to cover the remainder of these current vet bills plus what is needed for his shots and such. So there is a little update. Oh, she called the vet about the wrapping coming off. They told her to bring him back in this morning and they would re-do it free of charge. In the meantime she was to go to the store and buy non-stick wrapping and wrap it back herself. She did that, but wouldn't you know it, the next time he went out to potty, he came back in with that one off too. LOL Silly Brownie. I'm really glad that we didn't hastily decided to put him to sleep just because of the cost of the vet and we are eternally grateful for those who have sent funds to help us take care of him.

I had been hoping that if you delayed the amputation you might find that he can do without it. Our pets mean so much to us and we want the best for them, but sometimes being too hasty can be wrong as well.

This is the first I've read about Brownie - was he in an accident? Sweet photo of him.

I don't know how he broke his paw. It happened while I was on my mission trip. I noticed right away that he was limping when I got home. They all assumed he had gotten a sticker in it and said that he wouldn't let anyone mess with it. A couple nights later he was crying and I picked him up and seen it. He was several months past annual hair cutting time so his hair was super long and it had clumped on his paws from going out in damp weather. My assumption is maybe the hair got too heavy on that paw, but I really don't know. I know that I messaged my daughter right away and told her we had to do something. She called a vet and got him in the next day.

He is still doing well....he jumps in big bounds. I worry he will rebreak the paw but he seems to be just fine.

Yes, very costly. I was $347 for the initial visit and stay at the vet and now it's been $28 every other day and now every 3 days for bandage changes since. It's been a month of this.
