I learned via the net that Mark Zuckerberg gave up his American nationality and became to be a Singaporean. Of course it is a surprise for us. Since we think that there are many benefits to be an American. But as a super rich man like Mark Zuckerberg, there must be some important reasons for him to be a Singaporean, such as avoiding the tax.

It's Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin who relocated to Singapore.

He probably became a citizen to not pay taxes. Otherwise it makes no scene.

I agree with you. And actually it seems that Singapore has attracted many famous people to join. Such as Jet Li, one of a famous Kungfu movie stars in China long time ago. And Gong Li is also a Singaporean for some years.

Yes. There should be a reason for a person to change their nationality. Maybe he don't like cold season.

I can see why the tax reason was an important part of his decision. Maybe he just likes Singapore.

In fact he is already so rich, it is OK for him to pay for the tax anyway After all, the tax is used for the people.

@youless I think so. I think he could afford it. Plus he'd be giving back.

The tax reason is one big reason. If his earnings come from outside Singapore, he does not have to pay a single cent in tax. In US, I think he has to pay up to 30% tax.

In fact he has no problem to pay for the tax. Even if he pays a lot of tax, he is still so rich. If I were him, I would not give up my nationality due to it. USA is a big country and there are many advantages to live in a big country.

@youless Not really. Everyone can see that the demographic of US is changing, and the government is looking to tax the rich more and more, and to give the Mexicans more and more money in the form of free education and meals. Sooner or later, the population of those Mexicans-turn-Americans will exceed the Anglos.

I think it is OK. After all, his wife and daughter are Americans and therefore he can become to be an American easily if later he changes his mind.

It is going to help him with the taxes. Because US based taxes are too much. Maybe that is one reason.

This is likely to be the reason.
