what is the appropriate punishment that you suggest in India for a 'rape'?
Should a rapist be hanged in Public ?
should his limb be cut off or chopped off?
should he be given life long?
should he be stoned to death in public by the people ?
should such cases be kept out of the purview of Judiciary ?

a lot of those sound like ISIS punishments.
No, cases like rape should never be taken outside the judicial system that's what it's there for.
Depends on the violence involved but I'd say an average sentence for rape should be around 10-15 years with a second offence getting the person life.

The truth is no one deserves those severe punishments, even though they themselves have been cruel in the first place.
I do believe that if they are that heartless they should be put away from society where they can get counseling and find out the root of the problem that cause them to start raping in the first place.
there is also another angle that I myself would look at it, because we are all human if that was someone for me I don't Know how forgiving I would be or what would have transpired out of anger.
