What Is There To See and Do on Long Island, New York?

I have a good friend who lives on Long Island. A few years ago, she invited me to come for a visit but I haven’t done so yet.
I wondered what there was to see and do on Long Island, so I asked her. I came across her letter today and when I read it again, I remembered that there are several things to see and do on Long Island.
One thing she mentioned we could do was to visit Greenport, a North Fork seaport, she called it. We would have to spend the day there, she said, visiting museums and historic sites and strolling the Harbor Walk. We could ride an antique carousel and then have dinner in a nice restaurant. Sounds like a very pleasant day to me.
She mentioned The Gold Coast for upscale shopping but thought I might better like to go to Roosevelt Field, the island’s largest shopping mall.
She also mentioned Old Westbury Gardens. 160 acres of beautiful flowers on an estate, including a 1906 English-style mansion filled with priceless furnishings. That sounded very interesting.
There were several other things that she mentioned that I know that I would enjoy. There is the Hamptons, of course, and the Robert Moses State Park and Montauk, a thriving fishing community with great seafood. She remembered that I liked seafood.
I really would like to go visit her and all these places. I’m just not in a position to do that right now.
What do you know about Long Island, New York?

Oh! That's nice. So the beaches are nice and dining out. She said the food was great! So, you live in Florida now. Have you been back to Long Island recently?

I know nothing although the east coast of the US is where I'd primarily like to visit.
Lots of history relating to the UK around there.

We have lighthouses up and down the East Coast as well as the West Coast. I have been to many of them in Florida, North and South Carolina and Virginia. My oldest son has quite a collection of beautiful photos of many of them. Postcard perfect.

Well, then my post was somewhat useful, I'd have to say.

I know back in the 20s Long Island is where the super rich lived and The Great Gatsby is set there. I have only been to the Brooklyn part.

I liked the movie "The Great Gatsby" Both the one with Robert Redford and the one with Leonardo DiCaprio. Sad ending though.
