Horses at the Louvre, Paris

I've done a post of some of the attractions in the Louvre. I think nearly all those photos are by my husband. I knew he would take good photos so I concentrated my (few) talents on taking photos of the paintings of horses.
Most (and it may be all) are by a French artist, Jean-Louis André Théodore Géricault (1791 – 1824). On the title-plates the name was given as just 'Théodore Géricault'. Seeing I have so many by this artist I did a bit of research on him. He was one of the pioneers of the Romantic movement. From 1810 to 1815 he studied at the Louvre copying paintings by renowned artists. He also spent a lot of time in Versailles, gaining a knowledge of the anatomy and action of horses from spending time in the Royal palaces.
His first major work, The Charging Chasseur (photo 1), was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1812. Géricault was a keen horseman, painting horse races in Rome in 1817 (photo 2). In 1821 he painted The Derby of Epsom (photo 3), which was painted for his friend and patron, the English horse-dealer Adam Elmore. His most significant work was The Raft of the Medusa.
Photo 4 shows Napoleon but I can't remember the details of this work. I took photos of many of the title plates but not of this one. This discussion is really just an indulgence but for some artists the horse was a favoured subject. Géricault seems to be one of these.

Speaking of Napoleon, I once ate an omelette across the street from the battlefield in Waterloo. That was kind of cool.

I think that was very cool. I felt a bit the same when we visited Colditz where Douglas Bader and other officers were kept prisoner. Have you heard of him? Maybe you're too young.

@teamfreak16 It is interesting that some of these old heroes are being forgotten about at last. At the time he was probably known throughout the old 'Commonwealth' for his exploits.

@JudyEv That's okay, it shows they aren't some professional picture like you would find on Pixabay but that you took them yourself. Those are the best. Your husband's pictures are quite professional looking and I hope he sells them from time to time if that is what he wants to do. They are gorgeous.

For some reason when I load the photos I don't get a preview and I can't hear any music I choose. As I don't know any of the music offered I'm not game to pick something at random. I really need some tuition on using YouTube. I guess I should just search YouTube!

@koopharper I used to be able to do it but now it doesn't show a preview until I've completely finished uploading etc. I'll try to have a look at it later.

folks tend to ferget jest how much our ancestors owe to our equine friends ancestors, don't they? loved takin' that lil tour with ya. some spectacular pieces'f art fer certain. 'course ya know "horse" grabs my 'ttention e'ery time, lol.

He did a lot of cavalry type paintings. They are full of life and fire, aren't they?
