A Fun Game For Kids On A Rainy Day

When my younger brother and I were just little kids, we had a favorite thing to do on a rainy day. My mother would save small cardboard boxes for us, and we would make “prefab” buildings. We used pictures from magazines and construction paper to cover the different size boxes. We drew windows and doors on the construction paper before gluing it on the boxes to create shops and a fire station, police department, and Post Office and houses and barns and set them all up on the kitchen table. My brother had some little cars and we created a little town to drive the cars around. You would be surprised how much kids enjoy this activity on a rainy day, especially if you join them in the fun and help them to find pictures in the magazines they can use. Just collect the boxes. They could be cereal boxes or cake mix boxes or whatever you usually throw away. Turn the kids loose with some glue and construction paper and see what they can create. You stay in charge of the scissors and they can be in charge of the washable glue and crayons. Oh and the best part, this activity doesn’t cost a lot of money and it inspires the kids’ creativity. This activity can keep them busy for quite awhile and be sure to take lots of pictures of their creations. Picture by Pixabay

That's a good idea. If we had more space I'd probably let my kids do it, but our apartment is pretty small.

It's just a "rainy day" idea. I understand that living space can be small in an apartment.

I wouldn't have room to store the boxes, quite honestly. Once we have a bigger space (hopefully soon) I would probably save them up for them.

It is lots of fun. How old is your granddaughter? I have 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

This is a great idea. I used to make stables and barns out of shoe-boxes. I had a number of farm animals and would play for hours with them.
