"Now that you mention it, I did see something over there." Jericho said. He was leaning on the Max’s second floor apartment's window while Max argued to Chi that there was nothing there at all. “Something like a black cat. With big furry ears.” He joked while placing his hands on his ears to make it look like a cat’s big ears. “Don’t even joke about it!” Chi shouted. Her face was red. She was furious! “It’s creepy y’know. She’s looking right at us with it’s big, yellow eyes.” Jericho wondered. There was just no one out there. The only things that he could see were the littered trash cans and the path that lead to the road. Maybe she’s just trying to scare Max he thought. “It’s getting dark. Maybe you’re just seeing things.” he said. “If you’re not going to believe me then fine!” Chi said as she stormed out of the room. The two boys were left wondering until Jericho spoke. “Shouldn’t we go after her?” he asked. Max motioned him to go first and Jericho did. Jericho screamed aloud as he saw the Chi’s dead body lying on the ground. Her head was shaved clean and her hair was stuffed in her mouth. All over her body were cuts and her limbs were bent into impossible lengths. “Get a hold of yourself!” Max said. With his shocked face, Jericho pointed forward. “But Chi...” “Chi what?” Chi asked. Chi was alive. She had no cuts. There was no corpse. “But she...” Chi interrupted Jericho by punching him in the guts. “I never knew that you were a scaredy-cat!” she said. In the end, they all agreed that Chi accompany Jericho on the way home. Jericho wanted to protest, but the two just didn’t let him. Afterward, Chi went with Jericho until they reached his home. “Sheesh, I thought guys were supposed to bring women to their homes, not the other way around.” she joked. “Bye scaredy-cat!” she said as she left. That night, Jericho wondered about what he just saw. Chi’s dead corpse was writhing on the ground. Maybe I was just hallucinating he thought. And yet, it all seemed too real. He thought he shouldn’t be thinking much about it yet, as he to sleep early for class. Jericho was stupefied the next day. News of a raped schoolgirl was everywhere. As he sat down on a bench as he waited for a bus, he could hear people gossiping about a girl who was brutally murdered and left to dye on the road. The first thing that came to Jericho’s mind was his vision of Chi, but he thought that it might just be a coincidence at first. The atmosphere was heavy in the classroom. Everyone appeared tense. Then the teacher came. She wore a professional front as she did everyday, but a bit worried. Jericho noticed that Chi wasn’t around. She was always early for class and everyone used to be good friends with her. He swallowed with a realization. She was dead. And it had something to do with that thing he saw. Jericho stayed in class until afternoon. He didn’t eat. Then he went to the classroom next to him because he wanted to check on Max but he didn’t see him there. Instead, he talked to Max’s girlfriend about Chi and how she died. She said that Chi died after being tortured. Her description of Chi was the same as the one he saw in Max’s apartment. And what of the woman Chi was talking about? He went home with Chi and that thing that he saw in his thoughts. “I’m home.” he said as he opened the door, only to be surprised as he saw his mother hanging on a rope in the living room. Jericho closed the door in surprise and cried. “What’s wrong?” his mother asked as she came home from the market to buy groceries. “It was...” Jericho looked at his mom with surprise. Then he opened the door. There was no one. “Nothing”.
