Listening to the music on the river and in a club

You don't often see a French Horn in a jazz combo, but in the whimsical, watery world of these bronzed or coppery musicians at nearby Belmont Hot Springs, the musicians play to the accompaniment of the fountain (see the water pouring out of the trumpet?) and the rush of the McKenzie River behind the photographer.
While the band may not take requests, their unchanging expressions remain fascinating. I go to see a local jazz group quite often. The piano player, singer and bassist are all animated while performing, smiling, nodding to each other and the audience. The drummer remains stonefaced at all times though keeping that beat, but rarely even looking at the other performers. He does some great solos, with maybe a grimace here and there during intense moments, but acknowledges applause only with a wave of a drumstick.
Maybe that is the persona, the band wants as a counterpoint to the other members, or perhaps the drummer is such a shy soul that he must concentrate on the music to keep from running off stage in a panic.
Whatever the case, the band makes great music and I love a good jazz combo. By the way, they never use a French Horn.

I hope you don't mind me saying so but I'm sure that's not a French horn in your photo. It is hardly big enough to be a bass and looks more like a euphonium but the player should have his left hand 'cuddling' the instrument and his right hand below the transverse bar and over the valves. Even the trumpet player has to be playing only with his lips as his fingers aren't over his valves either. But it's still a cool sculpture.

Perhaps the sculptor was more of an impressionist. It has been there for many years.

@JamesHxstatic It's nice to have these things around the place. And the water coming from the trumpet is a nice touch too.

Downtown Colorado Springs has a children's fountain called Uncle Wilbur. Every half hour, a statue of him rises up and he squirts water at the kids from his tuba while tuba music plays. It's fun to watch. I may have to do a post on it.

Although the drummer doesn't take pride of place on the stage, they maybe act as a conductor of the jazz combo.

That's an interesting statue. Glad you like the music of the local jazz group.
