Mom is Driving Me Crazy!

Please excuse me for writing a second post, but if I don't vent, I might explode!
She is going on and on and on and on and on and on and on........all about how this Tylenol we have is making her hurt more instead of helping her pain and it's making her feel sick and how she needs a ride to the store to buy "her" Tylenol.
Let me say, she buys the store brand acetaminophen over the actual Tylenol brand, it's just easier to say Tylenol. She's bought the red pills from the Dollar Stores for years. Her last bottle was bought by my brother, the Equate brand, from Walmart. They are white instead of red. She's out of those now so I told her to use from our bottle on the cabinet.
The ones we have here at the house are the same red ones that she always bought before.
Mom, it's still acetaminophen, and still works the same whether the pill is red or white. I'm trying to keep my cool, but her constantly going on about it, and giving herself anxiety over it is really getting to me!
It's always something similar to this with my mom and why it's so hard for us to have her living here. We love her, we are glad she is still with us, but there is no way to get her to stop. I will stop with this one rant, otherwise you all will be reading for days.
I'm trying to have a good Saturday working online and watching shows and movies that I've DVR'd, taking advantage of not having any children here taking over the TV!

Okay, been there done that, and then learned even more than what I thought I knew. You may be 100% right, it may just all be in her head. My mom used to do this about cough syrup that she took. Said it gave her gas.
. Later I learned that one of the inactive ingredients DOES give gas. I was just trying to save her money, and I did not believe her. I also would ask why she did not buy some when you took her to the store yesterday. She may be also wanting attention from your brother and that is why she prefers his tylenol.

@marsha32 Yes, she probably wanted the attention. I know she was out of other stuff and I thought she went with you, but I guess she did not know she was low on her tylenol. It is a passive way of getting extra attention.

oh dear She is o ne of those who think one colors better than another pill even though
they have the same ingredient .But I have
found sometimes some Tylenol is stronger than the store brand.which is fine with me as
a diabetic I try not to overuse pain relievers
like Tylenol as they can do a number on your kidneys. If your mom is diabetic warn her not to overuse pain meds as they play havoc on your kidneys. this info is straight from my doctor too. by the way Im 89 myself

I'm glad she's not seeing these law suit commercials on TV that involve meds, including Prevacid which she has insisted she needs to take daily for a few years now! I cringe every time it's on as she will know for sure she has kidney troubles once she sees it.
Many doctors over the years have stopped being her doctor due to her being a hypochondriac.

@marsha32 I guess it is good luck that she has a doctor at this time. Regular tums or calcium citrate is much better for your stomach than those others. If she takes that stuff all the time it is no wonder she cannot digest some foods. Tell her how good papaya enzyme is for that and that she can get that at her herb store.

@GardenGerty If I don't write it down I won't remember, but I truly hate to mention the commercial to her. I know the kidney problems will start as soon as she sees it.

Try to be nice yet don“t let her get into your skin. It is difficult though. My mother ALWAYS had a greater pain than anyone in the last years of her life.

The bad thing is, we often do not sympaathize until they are gone and we are old ourselves.

@marguicha Yes, I am fairly good at holding my tongue and being the nice one...of course she is MY mother.

@GardenGerty Yes and no. It is important to sympathize, but some old people (and young people too) want to manipulate others.

They really might not be working as well for her as "her" brand. I'm ridiculously sensitive to changes in inactive ingredients, so a medication from one manufacturer will work great, but another won't work at all for me or I'll have an adverse reaction to it.
Of course, going on and on and on about the difference in pills (real or perceived) doesn't do anyone any good!

She has a 2 page list of prescription meds that she can't take. She reads the possible side effects, just knows she has at least one of them, and adds it to her lists of meds she can't take.
It's so hard for a doctor to find anything to give her so it's a good thing she depends mostly on herbs over prescriptions (which is a great thing anyway)

Yeah, only if they are the same color.
One doctor she had gave her sugar pills and she never knew it.

I'm on the positive side of life---she is on the negative of everything.
She's spending a lot of time in her bedroom these last couple of days.

I think brand names seemed to give a placebo effect on her. She is so comfortable with her own brand that she refuse to use other brands.

Sounds like my father in-law .. but I told my husband to just be patient with his Dad who is now 90 years and sometimes keep going on and on and on about the same thing.. My mother was like that too.. But you know what? now that she's gone, when I remember how frustrating it was talking to her, they bring smiles to my face now that she's gone .. weird.. but sometimes I wish she's still around ..

@marsha32 My mother in law had dementia and she passed aways a couple of years after being diagnosed .. However, my mother was more likely like your mom who just want to be a pain in neck most of the time .. lol .. But I still miss my mother and her being a pain ..

Wow! So many have these issues with products they buy. The probably all come from the same factory and are just in different capsules.

@crazyhorseladycx I have met all of the involved parties and Marsha is often in the middle of ridiculous disagreements. She is a special person to deal with it all.
