Do You Play Golf?

Two of my sons are avid golfers. They have many trophies from various tournaments in which they have played. I doubt if there is a golf course in Virginia, North or South Carolina or Georgia that they haven’t played. So, I’m always hearing golf stories and buying golf gifts for them and generally keeping up with things pertaining to golf. Each of them has the best golf clubs they can buy and golf shirts and golf shoes. I think my youngest son has at least ten pairs of golf shoes. Every time he sees a good price on golf shoes, he has to buy them. His wife just rolls her eyes. But, it’s his only hobby and he works hard for his paycheck, so she really doesn’t care. She has her Coach bags, so she’s happy. Recently though, I came across a little book at the Thrift Store. You should know me by now. I love to go to Thrift Stores. And of course, I’m always looking at the book section. Why pay full price for a book, right? There are tons of choices at the Thrift Stores. Enough to keep me entertained, I must say. Anyway, I wanted to share just a few little quotes from this book entitled “The Golfers Book of Wisdom” which I purchased, and I can give credit where credit is due, as far as these famous golfers , who gave the quotes go. Here’s just a couple that I truly understood and enjoyed, when I think about my sons and KNOW that they whole-heartedly agree with these thoughts. “Some people think that they are concentrating when they’re merely worrying.” Bobby Jones “Try to think where you want to PUT the ball, not where you don’t want it to go.” Billy Casper “Golf is a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what your experience tells you to do, and what your nerves will let you do.” Bruce Crampton “Golf is good for the soul. You get so mad at yourself, you forget to hate your enemies.” Will Rogers. I hope you enjoyed these. I did. Picture by Pixabay

My husband does enjoy playing golf. He doesn't do it a lot, but I know he would like to. Such is life. But he still enjoys it. Personally, I don't think I could really do it.

@IreneVincent lol. Yeah, I'd find something else to while my husband went to play golf too. It is quite expensive, which is one reason my husband doesn't do it as often as he'd like.

@dodo19 My sons take advantage of some good rates when they find them and that helps.

Golf can be expensive, but my sons enjoy it a lot and they make a vacation out of their trips. Their wives go with them usually and while they play golf, their wives enjoy the pool and shopping.

These are very clever. Have you seen the cartoon books by Thelwell? One is based on golf and has some very funny cartoons in it.

No, I haven't seen the cartoon books you mentioned. I'll have to look for them.

@IreneVincent They talk about Thelwell ponies which are shaggy little Shetlands. He has done a series of cartoons about kids and ponies. They are English books. I've also read a non-fiction by Norman Thelwell where he buys an old mill and restores it.

I have played on a Par 3 course. I'm not good at it though.

I do not play golf. I just could never get it and it's rather frustrating to me. Although I do enjoy golf on my Wii now and then!

My husband could never get the hang of it either. And he was very good at other sports, especially swimming and diving. That's when he was young, of course.
