We woke up at 5 in Panama. Vicente (12) decided to take the shower of his life. I think he was half an hour in the bathroom. Claudia told me that he hated showers at home.
We went down and in the middle of the trip, the elevator stopped and the lights turned out. The children panicked and we did our best not to show our own fear. We placed our finger in the alarm button and quickly the elevator was back to normal and we reached the first floor.
The woman at the lobby wasn´t worried about it and did not give an excuse on behalf of the hotel. She just said that the lights had gone out. No Comments. This is where I use foul language, but I tried to skip it because there were kids around.
I had never had such an experience and I bet that it could kill someone with claustrophobia.

We were the only ones at the elevator as it was before 5 A.M. That made it worse.

@marguicha I bet it did. It is funny how they didn't even acknowledge that the elevator had shut down. I can imagine the words you wanted to say.

It started almost immediatly. But those seconds (or a couple of minutes) are as bad as earth quakes.

After all had passed, we talked about it and we could all relax. I told Sofía that as soon as she learned to write better, she must write that on a diary.

I got trapped in an elevator once. It was my own stupid fault. I was screwing around and managed to set off the emergency brake. I eventually managed to pull the door open and jump down to the closest floor. I'm sure anyone watching the security tape afterward was rolling their eyes as I ran to the stairs laughing like an idiot on my way to catch the other elevator from a different floor. Hey, you're only young once.

I´m sure I have stories that I will NOT tell my grandchildren. But none involved physical danger as I´m a fraidy cat

@marguicha Don't think I was in any actual danger at the time. Just a really dumb situation to get myself into.

The woman lacks training on customer service. Maybe you tell her to know she has not done right.

I guess I was very much worried that the children would be too afraid. We were in the second or third floor only.

We just went to the hotel. But some years ago, I went to Funayala (St. Blas Islands) in a boat with friends. Then we left the yatch at a marina and went to take our plane at Panama city. We rented a van with a chauffeur and he took us to the channel and to the old city.
That´s the kind of things that you can´t do with 2 children.

People with claustrophobia would be very distressed if they got stuck in a lift.

she must be thinking that going lights has nothing to do with the elevator. She must be an old lay with a minimum education.

She was a young lady. As for her education, in a big hotel at least the people at the lobby have to know 2 or 3 languages and some computing. I guess she was more dumb than ignorant.
