Someone's Whistling Calmed Me Down

While hanging up the laundry at the back of the house where the gate was high, I heard someone whistling and realized that the tune was the Christmas carol Joy to the World. It was already 10:45pm and the neighborhood is quiet, so the sound stood out. I was tired and still had another chore to do, but started singing the lyrics in my head as I put the moist clothes in hangers. When the whistler's tune changed to Silent Night, I silently sang it as well, forgetting my tiredness and annoyance for a while. Maybe because, as described in Wikipedia, "the melody is a slow, meditative lullaby." Did a random tune or song from out of nowhere helped you to relax, focus or lighten your mood? Or do you have one that you sing or listen to when you're feeling overwhelmed?

The kind of music I listen to always soothes me down. I love to hear my husband whistling.. though not so much my parrot who imitates him.

@hereandthere I hate hearing them unless its December but they get stuck in my head. I found myself humming them a few days ago while hanging out my laundry.

it was a welcome sound, all right. i think christmas songs are like nursery rhymes and lullabies. it's okay to sing or listen to them anytime.

You know what? That's what's one of the things I miss about the Philippines.. when people whistle with tunes .. It has a very calming effect indeed..I remember when we were little, living close to the beach, the fishermen go pass on the way to fishing and they whistle .. I love the tune of "Sarong Banggi" .. it's a bicol song .. I have never heard anyone whistling here in Australia .. so I really miss it .. ..

I love all kinds of music - though I can't think of any particular situation, I'm sure hearing a song overhead at the store or somewhere has put me in better moods. If anything, if I hear a dance-able type song, my mind will go wandering and I will start choreographing in my head !

@acelawrites he was in tune, but not as great as my late uncle. but i really like listening to people whistling, humming, singing to themselves, even if they're out of tune or the lyrics are wrong. i guess i'm an eavesdropper by nature. hahaha!

Odd time indeed to hang your laundry, Ms. Everywhere, as Janet said hehehe! Could the one whistling be some spirits in the trees?
