Live With What You Love

This is part of my challenge on things to write about. It’s all about furniture and antiques and heirlooms and filling your house with the things you love, whether it’s furniture or rugs or pictures you have on the wall. It’s about LIKING your surroundings in your house or apartment. Decorating the rooms to suit YOUR style, and being comfortable with where you live.
I think its important to feel that when you come home from work, your home environment should feel comfortable and pleasant. It should be a place where you WANT to spend your evenings, relaxing, even if your furnishings are simple and inexpensive.
Do you prefer contemporary furniture or classical furniture? I’m not saying that I can afford to have the kind of furniture I would prefer. I just like to “IMAGINE” what I would choose if money was not an issue.
I sort of like the “country” style furniture. Comfortable overstuffed chairs and sofas and big wooden dining tables and chairs. I don’t like the modern or contemporary look. And while “antique” furniture is nice, if the whole house is done in that style, I really am not into the antique look.
What I have in my house is comfortable. The recliner matches the couch and the table and chairs for dining are made of wood with a nice table cloth. Nothing fancy, that’s for sure.
As for an heirloom, I don’t have one, except a quilt that my grandmother made. And I don’t use it or display it. It’s quite old and possibly fragile. I keep it in a cedar chest.
Do you have something that would be considered an heirloom?
Something “handed down” perhaps from your grandmother?

I guess my heirloom would be my china head doll that belonged to my great-grandmother in 1903 (?). I designed a dress for her that was in style in Illinois around that time. It's displayed in my china cabinet. I have a dresser in my bedroom that's not very valuable, money wise, but it's special to me because it belonged to my grandmother. Well, it might actually be an antique by now!
I agree that our homes should be what we like, whether it's expensive things or not.

Wow! That would be a wonderful heirloom from your great-grandmother. I'm sure you cherish it. You should take a picture of it and put it up on myLot and write the story behind it. It would make a wonderful article for all to read.

OH, I wish I had my piano that I had as a child. When I got married and moved away, I couldn't take it with me, since I was moving about 2000 miles away. Eventually, my mother and father moved from that house and sold everything to the person who bought the house.

@JudyEv I had taken five years of piano lessons on that piano. I've had one piano since then and then that was also lost to me. Another long story.

@IreneVincent That is sad but sometimes there just aren't too many, if any, options.

The photo on my article is from Pixabay. This style would be way too stiff for me. I haven't purchased any new furniture for a LONG time except for a recliner, because my old one was broken.

The china tea set is no doubt an heirloom. Hang on to it. I brought Noritake china back from Japan for my brother and his wife. She still has it.
The picture on my article is from Pixabay. This room doesn't look that comfortable to me, but I like the neatness of it.

@IreneVincent for me the room looks cool. I am looking at the color more than anything.

You are right that we have to love our home surroundings as that's where we spend most of our time.

Yes, our surroundings should at least be neat and clean and comfortable.
