the randomness of a bus

United Kingdom
August 2, 2016 1:45am CST
It's August, it's raining, and the bus is nowhere near as full as it is during term-time. I am on said bus, watching people, listening to their morning conversations and wondering just why it was that the BBC saw fit to confuse me this morning. I like that lady's pink nail varnish. My own is red and flakey. I like flakey nails ... they show that life goes on and the wheels keep turning, that nothing is continually perfect. They reveal that we're flawed. Of course, I like freshly done nails too, but there's something too perfect about them, as if they're trying to conceal our true identity; no warts here, love. From my position I can see three bald spots on three men. No, sorry, I can see four. That chap over there is elderly though so in my haste to tell you about the bald spots, I didn't include him. In my defence, his bald spot is more of a bald ocean surrounded by a receding island of white sandy beaches. Those two young men {you know you're getting on a bit when people in their twenties seem young} are enjoying a giggle, like a couple of schoolgirls whose crush has winked at them. I think they're playing Pokémon Go, the scoundrels. A woman has just sat next to me ... I fear she may start reading over my shoulder. Hi, woman. *waves* And so, the bus is fuller and my ramblings may not be so secret now. I should flee into the morning. Goodbye, cruel world. {I am so tired ... Baby Toddler Niece had better be in a happy mood, since this early start is for her benefit!}

As someone who never uses the bus I'm glad I've got you to constantly remind me why that is!!

@Poppylicious You do realise that you're actually the annoying one on the bus don't you?

Buses are brilliant. Even Baby Toddler Niece loves them. I spent an entire twenty minute bus journey this afternoon singing 'the wheels on the bus'. I know all the words. And yes, she was with me. I haven't yet got to the stage where I'm singing without little ones being present!

@poppylicious I'm a bit nervous now because you've dragged me into that bus and I've no ticket and can see an inspector waiting to get on at the next stop. I don't even know where I'm heading.

It's a magical mystery tour. And don't worry ... I have only ever met two ticket inspectors in *cough* years of bus travel. :)

The weather here can't decide if it wants to be rainy or sunny. Today it was muggy with the rain.

It's a very long time that I do not ride a bus in the morning, but I suppose that it has not really changed from my days, except that now there are the cellphones, this means it even worst.

@Poppylicious I am not sure. Even when I am reading something, or searching with my tablet, I meet people who find an excuse to start a conversation. Unfortunately the tablet is sometime the excuse to start.

Oh, I don't know. Mobile phones make it easier to not have to make small talk with strange people. :)

I love being with you on your bus journeys - I very rarely go on a bus myself.

@Poppylicious That's fair enough - after all you have to make things entertaining

They're not as exciting as I make them sound ... I have to liven them up somehow, and if it's in my head, then so be it!

@jaboUK Yep. Which isn't to say that it's not all true. It is. I just like to add some spin.

If she is MI6 I fear she'll have been a tad disappointed with my ramblings! Nothing to see here, love!

good capture of the experience of the bus ride - here is Mad Donna's Wheels On The Bus song - a great parody of Madonna songs
Crazy version of "The Wheels on the Bus" sung by Mad'Donna. Sounds very like "Ray of Light" by Madonna!!!
