Do you own a paper shredder? I invested in one quite a few years ago. I shred a lot of paper to recycle. After retiring from my jewelry business, I realized that I had a lot of SENSITIVE paperwork that involved other people’s credit card numbers and even Social Security numbers, so I have shredded all of it. Now, I use the shredder for any junk mail that has my name or address or any other information that I don’t want to simply throw in the trash. I like to pick up small glass jars with lids at the Thrift Store, for storing odds and ends. I put them on a shelf in the closet under my staircase, so they are easily accessible and I can see at a glance what they contain, whether its buttons or sewing notions or thumb tacks and paper clips. I learned this from a friend years ago. I used a lot of tape for packaging up orders to mail or envelopes and could never find the tape when I needed it. She said to take an old belt and slip the rolls of tape on the belt and hang it up on the back of the office door. It’s still there and I always know where my tape is, even though I don’t use it as much as I used to. My grandson knows where it is too and he often comes to get a roll of tape. I remind him to return the tape when he gets done with it. Do you lose track of your car keys and your cell phone or reading glasses? Put a small basket or tray near the door you use. Deposit these items there when you come in the door. Picture by Pixabay

i shredded all mine from when i 'twas'n the soaps'n sundries biz, but still didn't trash 'em. used 'em to stuff those used toilet paper rolls, 'long with dryer lint, to make fire starters fer the wood burner. these days jest shreddin' don't seem to be 'nough coz folks with time'n their hands'n evil'n their hearts can take those'n put 'em back together. yepperz, those jars do com'n handy. i keep 'em'n hand, more'n i need to actually. why? coz there's no glass recyclin' where i live 'n i dislike the thought'f 'em windin''p'n the landfill. the bigger'uns're handy fer lefto'ers'n the fridge. one ne'er needs to wonder what's 'nside the 'mystery container' coz all 'tis visible. i did that with my tape rolls also :) prior i'd 'put'em 'n a spindle, but that jest took'p valuable counter space. great tips :)

Using shredded paper in toilet paper rolls is an excellent idea for fire starters for a wood burning stove. I'll have to tell me son about that. He has a wood burning stove. Very useful information. Thanks

All good tips and I too shred everything before it goes out for recycling. I like your idea of the basket by the door...everyone here is always asking...did you see my keys?

I actually have a small hook by the door that I hang my keys on. I also have a list of things on my front door to remind me of what I need to take with me when I leave. Wallet, money, glasses, cell phone, mail, grocery list, etc. I check the list before I go out the door.

@Marilynda1225 It has saved me a lot of time. I used to get to the end of the driveway and then have to turn around and come back. Sometimes I got clear out on the road and remembered something and had to turn around a go back. NOW, I check my list. I can't depend on my memory.
