The #9 spot in my Favorite Kissing Songs series belongs to New Braunfels, Texas's Sixpence None the Richer and their hit "Kiss Me."
Led by vocalist Leigh Nash and guitarist\cellist Matt Slocum, Sixpence None the Richer are a Christian band that, like Over the Rhine, play secular music. Sixpence, however, broke into the mainstream with their 1998 hit "Kiss Me."
Reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, the catchy pop tune was an international smash, charting in several countries (the band has even recorded a Japanese version.)
The song has been covered numerous times, most notably by Jewel, and Avril Lavigne.
(Like Leigh Nash's sweet vocals? Check out her work with Canadian electronic duo Delirium. "Innocente" is a good starting point.)

Kissing songs. Why hadn't I thought of that? I'd take John Hiatt's Icy Blue Heart as sung by Emmylou Harris.
"Icy Blue Heart" [background vocals by Bonnie Raitt] (written by John Hiatt) From "Bluebird" album [1989] LYRICS: She came on to him like a slow moving cold ...

I didn't realize the song made it to #2. It was heavily played on alternative radio. Does she have a sweet voice or what?

Oh, I love her voice. I love the stuff she's done with Delirium.
