Jeff Todd reports the news on Thursday the Pittsburgh Pirates have activated from the 60 day disabled list 39 year old right handed starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong.
Vogelsong had been struck in the face on May 23, 2016 by a pitched ball thrown by Colorado Rockies pitcher Jordan Lyles which sent Vogelsong to the 15 day disabled list on May 24 before he was transferred to the 60 day disabled list on June 4, 2016 to an injury to his eye that needed surgery.
Vogelsong had been pitching for the Altoona Curves which is the AA minor league team of the Pirates in a rehabilitation assignment on June 12 before he was promoted to pitch for the Indianapolis Indians around July 20, 2016.
To make room for Vogelsong on the Pirates 40 man roster, the Pirates management has released right handed pitcher Wilfredo Boscan and demoted second baseman Max Moroff to the Indianapolis Indians.
Vogelsong will make his next start on Thursday at Turner Field in Atlanta Georgia versus the Atlanta Braves.
The Pirates are confident that Vogelsong has fully healed from facial fractures to the left side of his face though his mental state of playing baseball will be tested this evening in Atlanta.

Ryan should provide a boost to increase the chances of the Pirates staying in playoff contention for the time being.

Me too since I am sure that Ryan is mentally tough to block out the beaning that put him on the disabled list.
