I was workin the swing shift from 6pm to 1, 2 or 3am back in 1975 and in the mid 70s most channels went off air about midnight. Cable hadn't been dreamed up yet. A friend of mine would tell me about the Johnny Carson show and how funny it always was, well I got to watch one of those shows on YouTube and oh wow how funny they were ..... it's an age thing, you may be too young to know these guys. I think I'm going to see if I can get the Tonight show to stream but I haven't seen it offered on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu ..... anybody know any streaming sites that offer the Tonight show of the 1970s? Do any of them look familiar?

I remember the Johnny Carson show. It was always on too late for me to watch back then. My Uncle used to watch it every single night before he went to bed.

Yeah, those who worked day shift didn't stay up that late and those who worked swing or nights weren't home to watch.

I used to try to watch it but I'd always fall asleep before his first guest was finished @simone10

@rebelann My Uncle worked during the day and he would watch it religiously every single night. He was one that could go on little sleep.

I used to watch Johnny Carson when my oldest daughter was a baby. She had colic so we were often up late. It was very entertaining. I really don't know where to find episodes of it.

He really was @HazySue I always got a big kick outta Dean. Bob Hope was too funny when he tried to leave and they wouldn't let him, I wish I knew what it was that Dean said but I imagine it was pretty vulgar.

@rebelann Dean Martin was hysterical. There is a station called GETTV that has some of the old shows like that. Many you can get it in your area.

Somebody way back fought all the censorships they had for old TV shows because they were way too strict but then the trouble started because they didn't draw a clear line as to what should never be allowed on TV. So you never watched Johnny Carson?

Here's Johnny! My parents watched the show. I've only seen a few, but if you find out how and where, please let me know. He was awesome!

Things have really changed. Now so many have smart TVs and are not using cable.

Oh no, now there's a smart TV? Cheeeeeze, I'm so glad I only have a smart phone, the dang thing outsmarts me at every turn. I haven't watched cable in years. When the first DVD player came out with options that included Netflix I bought it and I've been watching streaming TV ever since. I finally completely dropped cable when I finally found out I didn't need it to run Netflix ..... ok, I learn slow but I learn

I've only vaguely heard of Johnny Carson, but like Dean Martin - I loved the clip. I wonder if he was drunk for real, or if it was an act.

I believe he was really drunk, the clue was when Bob Hope tried to walk off the show. Dean Martin used to have his own variety show and in one of the episodes he mentioned he couldn't do that show if he were sober.

Only youtube is doing what? I know I can find short clips of tv shows there but it isn't the same as streaming tv.
