Dog Overwhelmed With Grief, Died

Two weeks ago, a first cousin of mine died of heart attack leaving behind her only son and her dog. A week after her death, her pet dog died also. This dog that was so attached to her suddenly turned inactive and did not care to eat or drink since the day my first cousin died. It is so touching to note that a dog could feel the loss of a loved one and would mourn and grieve to the point of death. I wonder if cats or other pets would also do.

That's very sad that your cousin passed away but I can understand how her pet was lost without her. I don't know if cats are as attached as dogs to their owners

How very sad for the poor little dog. If I lived alone, mine would probably do the same thing because they are so attached to me. But, they also love my brother so they wouldn't be left alone.

@salonga You are so right! That is the way my two dogs are. Daisy, who is a year old, follows me everywhere I go in our house. She can't stand to be away from me. Bella is 8 yrs old and she will come looking for me if I am out of her eyesight for a long time.

I have heard of that happened more often then you would think. It is so sad that they can feel such sadness that they die as well. How sad for the wife and son to lose their father/husband and dog so close together.

The movie Hachiko is about a dog's loyalty to his master. Quite a tearjerker.

It's so saddening. Pets like dogs are so loyal to their masters that there are stories like that when dogs are so affected by the loss of their master.

That's so sad, yet like you said, very touching that a dog feels such deep loss (and love).
