Dejunking - keeping only the best of things

I've had to move many times, and each time I say "aaagh! I have too much stuff!" But I'm really good at acquiring THINGS. There's a partial solution.
I am trying to buy more things that are long lasting, reusable, and high quality. things, so I can just... not buy as much disposable stuff.
For example, pens. I'm phasing out my cheap ones so I can use my fountain pen more often. The one with the fine-tip iridium nib. I'm also using more binders instead of notebooks, and putting more into electronic storage and backing that up rather than keeping hard copies of everything.
I'm also working on donating/getting rid of old clothes that have outlived their usefulness. I use mine for years before that decision is made. I also only keep two to three pairs of shoes at any given time. That helps. But I try all the time to think of new ways to organize and store what I do have, so as to have better use of my living space.
Same with art supplies. I have finally gotten to where I keep only the high quality stuff that gives good results. That helps, because being an artist is a highly cluttered type of lifestyle!
Keeping less junk around is good for decluttering, good for the environment, and also just might be good for the stress levels, according to some studies.

@Rohvannyn Yes, that's the oddest thing and a fun fact. I always feel lighter, freer, better when I've decluttered a bit. I keep a "Donate" bag by the door. I'm not sure how it happens but it gets filled on a regular basis and off I go to the Goodwill to pass the stuff along.

That's really true. I've had a bad habit of keeping too many things for a long time.

@Rohvannyn ,but sometimes it's proved good because we don't know when the useless becomes useful

@PurnaSharma That's true too. There have been times when I have gotten rid of something, then needed it.

It really can be tough at times - but it's a thing that can be gotten used to. I found that it helped to rethink the whole "I totally need this" trap. I still get caught with it sometimes though.

I cant do that with shoes, mainly because I have to swap around alot, and I use shoes for years. But I do agree, it's good to sort resort and spend smarter!

@Rohvannyn I do. I let myself by 1 new pair of flipflops a year. Tennis get replaced only when they start falling apart. I have good boots that should last several now, those are waterproofed. etc.

If you use shoes for years, no matter the swapping, it sounds like you've got the right mindset.

Exactly. Then maybe, if we buy less things, we can spend a little more for what we do buy and support local businesses.

@Rohvannyn Like me. I'm obsessed with Siamese cats. Dad just knows that Beau is soft and loves to plague him- tapping him, reaching out and grabbing. The two have a grand time together but Dad doesn't get the gist of the blue eyes.

Exactly. One of our prized rocks might be junk to someone else. Similarly, my nearly mint copy of Suikoden II might be useless to you. Ultimately, I am working on keeping only that which enriches my life in a meaningful way.
