At least we got a medal

Hidilyn Diaz , Medal, Silver, Rio, Olympics

I can't help admit that this Rio Olympics didn't really get me interested one bit because we never got close to a medal. I hardly remember the last we got a medal from participating from this event. Although I do commend the dedication of our athletes, some were just better and took decades of practice. But this story broke out that one from the weight lifting division won a silver medal, which is better than nothing. Perhaps, I should give out fast food too, like she did Photo Credits to http://preen.inquirer.net/30317/weightlifter-hidilyn-diaz-wins-the-first-olympic-medal-for-the-philippines-in-20-years

It's the first time for a woman athlete from our country to have won a medal. It's such an honour.

@Letranknight2015 It was for bowling, an invitational sport, not included in the medal tally, not many countries competed.

Our Athletes are not getting funds thats why they dont get superior training. Many of them even funded their self because the government is not helping.

@Letranknight2015 Then to make it worst, they will tax the hell out of them

That's the most frustrating part of their dedication is that for years the government wasn't giving them enough funding @CaptAlbertWhisker

You don't sound impressed, but a silver medal is better than 99.9999999% of the people on this planet could possibly do, so give the girl a lot of credit!

I wasn't really much into Olympics these days @AliCanary I don't know what made you think that I don't give credit for her hard work. I mean, her not eating her favorite food during training is huge thing already.

I caught the competition on TV. Her optimism was so obvious. She was also cheerfully competing while the others were so serious. Yan ang Pinoy!

Congratulations on winning a medal! It is not that easy to win a medal at Olympics where there are so many excellent atheletes. It is extremely competitive for all the athletes. Hard work and clever ways of practice lead to success! So in my opinion, whether they win or not, they are heroes already if they are there in the event.

I think your country won a lot second to the USA @williamjisir66 which was obvious since those atheletes takes decades of hard line training

They always highlight the metal winners but there are stories untold of the young people that go there to try so hard and without them it wouldn't really be much. Perhaps you have touched on something here!!!

Of all the sports event, weightlifting came in big with a surprise. Most sports assistance goes to other big sports and weightlifting has been left with a small budget. However, to the surprise of many, a woman weightlifter have lifted the spirits of the Filipino people and gave them the idea that we can truly compete with excellence. I hope that our sports officials will concentrate on sports where we can have a chance of winning medals like boxing, weightlifting, table tennis, archery, badminton and other small sports.

Hello @ValueAdder It doesn't surprise me which sport, as long as any sport we get a medal, that's okay. Im proud of all of them for even participating despite the fact they don't get much support from the government.
