Ok, I'm fessin up I love watchin streamin TV and was looking for a service that had Gun smoke the 6th season ...... I thought I found it HA!!! once I registered thinkin I'd have a new streamin service I got what you see above. It's not like I didn't check to see what the site had and it did seem legit but bygolly that dang dilly hijacked my Edge ..... again I'm no dummy ..... oh wait, maybe I am but I do know never to call the creeps that keep doin this. So I got on my Chrome browser and checked with Microsoft.com to see what was up. Per their advice I ran a total system scan and they emailed me the following scanner for future use just in case, I thought I'd share that link with you, it is from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx Someday I'll learn

There have been a few variations on this one, but most have been around for a while.

@rebelann Avoiding such malware can be very difficult because the infection can be found on many respectable sites.

So true @Asylum at least I now have a link to a scanner that is supposed to help, we'll see about that though.

That's what the tech told me. I also figured out that my desire to watch streaming TV via new sources with different venues is what gets me into trouble.

Took me a long time to learn that lesson. That was a couple of computers ago.

I know exactly what you mean. I still have those old putters now I just need to figure out how to wipe the mother boards so I can give them to recycle.

@rebelann There are programs you can buy to wipe them, I believe. You can ask around or see if there is a computer repair in your area.

I would have opened up my virus scanner and ran a scan at that point.

Yeah, I did that to no avail, it wasn't a virus that had hijacked the browser.

I don't know much about computers, but thanks to articles like this I at least know to never respond to things like this. I'll copy your link just in case.

It's just a scanning tool by Microsoft and it never hurts to give the old PC a good scan now and then to kick the bugs out. I ran it a little bit ago and from the info I read it doesn't hurt to run this tool about once a month .... or in my case once a week, I keep gettin myself into trouble

It is better but I've heard it really is hard to grasp at first if you've mostly used Windows.

I do as well. Usually I don't have a problem but I saw a show I hoped to watch on a streaming tv site I had not heard of before then boom, it got me

Oh those make me crazy. Most of them aren't real, but they're always annoying.

It did drive me nuts for a while but it helped that I've gone through the drill before so I knew what not to do to get into further trouble.

What happened is exactly why I never use Edge. They apparently don't care that these parasites have taken over and made Edge too risky to use.

It was the sites I accessed that had a malicious attachments which could easily have infected Explorer, Chrome or any other browser, as I wrote above I made the mistake of thinking I had found a new streaming TV site on the same lines as Netflix.

It's not exactly a virus @akalinus it's more malicious malware or adware.

Yeah, I've gone through this before so at least I knew what not to do and now I have a link that will help scan my system should it happen again. As the Tech told me, each day a new virus or malicious adware is dreamed up by who knows who so it'll probably happen again.
