In olden days there were some people known by the name 'street singers'. These are people who sing all types of songs from religious texts. They come in groups and sometimes alone. Even a solo performer sometimes will have an Assistant who plays Harmonium. If he can not get an Assistant the singer will carry this Harmonium around his neck But, nowadays there are no people who sing songs and poems from ancient texts. They are singing film songs.

We call them buskers in the UK.
They sing all sorts of stuff but never religious things that I've heard.
In most towns they have to have a licence to do any sort of street performance.

We don't have the religious text singers that I know of. But there are plenty of street musicians. A few months ago we went shopping and there was a guy with a guitar and a collection box out. We gave him a few bucks, paper money which is probably better than he'd been pulling in. This is a small town but still we get street musicians once in awhile, I believe this guy was homeless. He wasn't real good but he was good enough to earn a few bucks.
In large cities, they get a lot of street acts, magic and dancing and all kinds of things.

Great post. We don't have street singers here in the U.S. I admire your country, it's so beautiful and interesting. I would love to visit someday

In our cities we have street singers, they sing for tips and do a good job. The songs sung are the modern ones.
