I've told this story before but this little guy just had a major growth spurt. An Asian woman one day offered me some fruit. She didn't speak English very well. Hardly at all but she showed me in gestures how to peel the fruit, eat it and spit the pit out. I took the seeds home and thought, "What the heck I'll give it a try." I had 3 seeds. One didn't make it through the sprouting. The second died the next winter. But this little guy hung on strong and 4 years later, look at him now. He's supposed to get 8 foot tall and grow fruit. It's called the "dragon's eye fruit" and it's a superfruit! It has a fury type shell that gets peeled. It reminds you of a peach at touch but it's only the size of a small gum ball. After peeling it, don't look at it, it looks like an eye. It really does! Hence the name " Dragon's Eye Fruit. It's like a grape in the mouth but tastes both sweet and bitter like a mixture of fruit, fruits I just can't put a name too. The pit is quite big in size like a nut. I grew it at maybe an inch in the soil, gave it water and lots of light. This type of fruit tree takes to a sandy soil but I did grow mine from plain potting soil. I replant it once a year before spring starts just to give it that extra boost at the end of winter. I keep it warm throughout the winter by placing the plant under a lamp on my desk. but give it as much sun as I can get. Enjoy the photo. Note: I'm not sure why it loaded the image sideways. It wasn't taken that way. Hmm

I have researched it and you can keep it in a planter. So it will be my indoor tree. I'll need one of those open ceilings or big windows. lol

During the summer months, I put it out on the back porch to get tons of sun.

We call the fruits longans, they are of the same family of the lychees. I never tried to grow a tree from the seeds, our country is too cold in winter.
