4 miles today

The low was around 78 this morning when I went on my 2.15 mile walk. I was waiting for the sun to rise so that I could get started. It was so comfortable out and I didn't even break much of a sweat even though I went two miles. I just came back from another walk about ten minutes ago. This one was 2.21 miles. I'm tracking it via the fitbit app but my fitbit will arrive tomorrow. I can't wait to start using it and hope it comes before I go to work. I'm not quite sure that I'll wear it my first night at work though. I am currently trying to decide whether I want to tackle half mile walks on the days I work or just leave it. My good side says a half mile won't hurt before bed and my lazy side says you'll get enough exercise at work. Do you have a fitbit or exercise tracking device? How often do you use it? What do you do to stay fit? There are five ways (counts in head again) to exit my neighborhood. So it's a pretty big neighborhood with several roads that intersect with one another. There's one big road that goes in like a half circle shape and ends at a recreation center. I try to walk up slight elevation roads but there's one big hill type road that I cheat and walk down. I don't really have a goal in mind yet, just trying to exercise and have fun while doing it. I do want to get where I walk three miles per exercise session but I might wait to tackle that when it is cooler earlier in the day.

I used to use a pedometer and found in my job of shelving media in the library I did get in ten thousand steps including the walk to work and back. NowIm elderly use a walker but if I exercise by walking 45 minutes and cut back on snacks I lose weight. I need to do that again as I gained back some weight.Im 89 by the way lol.

The only thing about this app I am using is it doesn't count steps. The fitbit when I get it will. I've used a pedometer in the past but found it wasn't the best quality. Does your retirement center have a room or area where you can walk but also sit if need be?

@ScribbledAdNauseum yes also the building is super large and two storied so In very hot or cold weather I have got my walk i n by traversing both floors as there are at least 158 people here now as residents.

I don't have a fitbit, but two of my neighbors do, it is pretty interesting except it doesn't really count steps too well. As for the extra walking before bed, you could wait and see how many steps you take during the day to see whether you need to walk more.

I don't take that many steps during a normal "day" off work. I have started to walk in the evenings on days that i do not work, and I walked this morning as well. Oh well if it doesn't count my steps too well atleast (hopefully) it will help me track my heart rate and get me onto walking a mile faster. Now it takes me around 17 minutes 20 seconds to walk one mile. I want to get that down to 16 minutes.

@Carmelanirel2 Oh okay. Well no worries there as I don't start counting until I'm off my steps and I only have five to begin with. Nowhere to exercise on steps unless I go to my sister's house as she has three flights!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oops, I didn't word that too clearly, sorry. I tihnk it does count your steps, but it is going up and down stairs where it is not as accurate. For example I was with my neighbor when she went up and down her basements stairs a couple times and it only said she went half that much.

That's great! My brother-in-law has a fitbit and it has led him to exercise a lot more.

THat is what I am anticipating and hoping this one will do for me. Plus I am able to explore my neighborhood again and enjoy nature while I am at it. We have walking paths at the recreation center in our neighborhood but I'd rather just walk the neighborhood itself. Plus the area right before the recreation center... It sort of has a bad vibe to it.

I could use the app from Apple on my iPhone if I want. I walk but not much. And it has been so hot out lately that I cannot even go outside without breaking a sweat. So I have been avoiding walking the last week or so.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It has been extremely humid here day and night the last week. So I decided not to bother walking. Hopefully the humidity breaks soon. They say by tomorrow. Hopefully.

That's the app I've been using the past few days. I've also bought the bracelet so when I am away from my phone I can still track. It has been in the 90's here but around 7 pm it gets to be around 87 so that's when I start walking. Sunsets around 8:20 so I'm always home before then.

I don't have a fit bit. I joined a walking group to get me motivated. But lately I haven't been going to meet up with them! Have to do something.

I wear my FitBit all the time except when I'm showering. To work, when I'm out and about, when I'm home, etc. I go to the gym and, of course, I wear it there too. It's very cool. I love mine. I have the Charge HR

I got the fitbit flex. I work as a stock clerk and I worry about it getting in the way but I shall see what it's like on my wrist and decide whether I'll wear it to work. It will be interesting to see how many steps I end up taking at work pre night. I have a friend who has one and so we will be sort of challenging one another. Now I have to see about convincing another friend to get one so we can all workout together even when we can't hangout together.

I don't have a fitbit. I would love to have one. I do walk to get the mail and take out the trash.

I spent this summer in a place where it's almost impossible to go for a run on the roads. The public parks are crowded and the running tracks are barely 500 meters. Being a girl, if you go outside wearing shorts, you get stared at. It's uncomfortable to say the least. Because of all this my cardio consists of running up and down the stairs. I started doing yoga and tai chi and body weight exercises like burpees, pushups, planks and crunches. It's super hard to find motivation to exercise at home and i've gained quite a bit of weight. But it could have been worse.
