The heart of beauty is the beauty of the heart

The world seems to place a great importance on outer beauty.
A beautiful scene in nature; a beautiful looking person; a beautiful musical composition. All of these are examples of outer beauty.
My heading shows however that I am thinking here more about something else though: inner beauty.
There is beauty within our hearts.
If beauty lives in our heart, does it need to show up elsewhere too?
"When beauty lives in the heart, it doesn’t need to show up anywhere else."
I recently came across the above quote in an Email sent to me by an acquaintance.
It got me to thinking though, is this really totally always fully entirely true?
What about the truth of another well known quote, "as above, so below", or this could be re-written as, "as inwardly, so outwardly"?
Surely if beauty lives in the heart, it will tend to show up everywhere else as well then, wouldn't it?
Can an ugly outer appearance also allow for the possibility of that person carrying inner beauty inside themselves then too, or not then?
Beauty is an attribute of love, but so is ugliness.
All things are within love, and all things can be used for love by love in you.
In this respect then, outer beauty does not always reflect inner love, but inner love always creates an outer shining forth of itself.
Physical ugliness is perhaps only ever just skin deep in the eye of the beholder, then.
I would say that such ugliness is nothing but an outer mask, depicted to be described in that way by unknowing others.
The inner beauty of an outwardly physically ugly person can exist still within their heart, but maybe it can only be seen by other people when the inner beauty is being seen in an unique way too, by them looking past the outer trappings.
We can in fact see beauty in all things, and then outer ugliness might then be seen with new eyes then too.
Inner ugliness is something else again though.
What is inner ugliness?
Inner ugliness comes from our living from our minds first, rather than from our hearts first. The only really beautiful way to live is from our hearts, putting them always above our minds.

We do get carried away by appearance and media is a culprit using those who have outer beauty as a selling point.
Inner beauty lies dormant except to those who are able to see it from the outside - then it outshines the outer ugliness even.
Like a flower in a desert without any one to appreciate it we should carry on and shine our light by extending our love and compassion without inhibition. Then our life's work gets done - siva

thanks siva, I like your example of the flower in the desert.

Why do they say that inner beauty is in the heart?
Inner beauty is the fountain of love that exists always blossoming and pouring itself forth from your heart, but if you dam it up with your mind, your outer natural beauty starts to decline, because the dam walls keep it out, or in, in this case too. It has to be allowed to shine outwards too, without inhibition, as you stated.

@innertalks We smile with our eyes, not by baring our teeth.
The Eyes are the Window to the Soul - the Bard said.
When we allow outer self to dictate and get carried away then our inner beauty is stifled and end up as losers in the end.
By reflecting our inner self we keep the inner beauty well oiled.
I feel a sincere smile opens the window to our heart and inner beauty.
Sadly, our lifestyle acts as a dampener - siva

Yes, if we open both our eyes and our heart, how could we not see the beauty that is all around us to see, or waiting to be seen.
