Sometimes it is so easy in our daily lives to forget how much we truly have to be thankful for. We are all Blessed. Even in our toughest times we are still Blessed with what we have. It could always be worse.
Every Wednesday evening we have Bible study at church. We have prayer request time where we say our requests and Pastor writes them down.
Last night we heard about people who lost loved ones suddenly, others know people dying of cancer, some have work injuries that are keeping them in the hospital, some have family members that lost everything to the flood in Louisiana, some have family members who are dealing with that fire in California, etc...
When I hear of all these things, it makes me not only grateful for what I have but also helps me to remember things could always be so much worse.
The next time you think things could not get any worse-please think twice...Things could be worse, a lot worse.

You're right and sometimes we are the ones who have family dying of cancer or have it ourselves.I know and have been myself, people in these situations who themselves are still grateful. Once you give up gratitude you haven't got much to live for.

@CinnamonGrl Yes absolutely, I think we all know someone who is going through something awful. We all definitely have a lot to be grateful for-even when it doesn't feel like it.

@LovingMyBabies Even when my husband (we were separated but still close friends) was dying of cancer, I'll be darned if he wasn't always asking us how WE were doing with it all. He'd say how lucky he was to have us and all his friends. I don't know if I will ever be like that. But people never cease to astound me, how altogether good they can be in the worst situations.

@CinnamonGrl Wow, he sounds like a grateful and strong person to think of others in such a time. =(
People were surprised by my husband and I when we were homeless. They were shocked that we were still sticking together and our children were still so happy. When you have the Lord in your heart you know it will pass and all you have is love and each other.

@skysnap Being positive all the time isn't realistic and that's not what I'm saying here at all. But when you are down and out, think about people who have it worse-it will make you feel better about what your going through.

Very true. We can all get a bit wrapped up in our own problems which, in the grand scheme of things, aren't really problems.
My wife and I have been very stressed by a prospective house move which keeps getting delayed. It has caused all sorts of aggravation and argument. At the weekend we were in our local park walking the dog and a new bench had appeared. The inscription on it was in memory of a 14 year old boy. We just looked at each other, almost in tears, and didn't really need to say anything. Massive lesson in perspective. No matter what the house move throws at us now just doesn't seem important in comparison.

@WorDazza Absolutely. What you and your wife experienced is exactly what I'm talking about. Seeing that bench in memory of a young child can open our eyes real fast to things.
My husband saw a little girl in the store the other day, maybe 4 years old and she's fighting cancer. =( He was feeling sorry for himself before he saw her over an unexpected bill. Opened his eyes real quick too.

@LovingMyBabies Thank you for your uplifting words. I'm learning to be an in-everything-give-thanks individual as I grow older in every season and chapter of life. You are right about thinking, praying and sometimes, when we can, help friends and families who might be struggling.
Blessings of peace!

That was one thing I realized when we lived in Europe and we went to Africa one summer. There is always people that are worse off than you are. That is why I am grateful for what i do have.

@Ritu96 We are human, we will always complain about something which is normal. But when we are always feeling ungrateful-that is when there's a problem.

true...i too feel the same way. I live in a country where it's not hard to find someone who might be struggling harder, suffering more or simply having a bad day....all I have to do is walk out of my gate. Such realizations helps to keep me grounded and keep situations in perspective.

@ms1864 Yeah, none of us have to go very far to hear of these horrible things people are going through. =( It does help us to be more grateful.
