I went back to study for my Bs.c in computer sciences and the course I'm taking is database management systems. I have to learn SQL, use postgreSQL, I study about formal query languages such as relational algebra and more. Some more topics include ER model that is a way to depict the types of entities in the company, and the connections between them, so, then, it is easier to understand how to make the tables and manage the data about them. So, far, the material is not easy, and it's not easy for me to sit and study. I want to mylot all day. So, I sometimes take notes as questions and answers and review them, I check my memory and see that I can remember stuff. I will study normalization of tables, make an assignment and at the 22 of September. I will have a test. I study from the book `Database System Concept (sixth edition) (Abraham Silberschatz, Henry F. Korth, S. Sudarshan). If you know some stuff, please give me tips.

It is boring but if you try to teach the concept to others then it'd not be boring. Also if you write some opensource program and script and host it on github then you'd have some refernece to look up to for future. I usually made lot of sample programs to learn and that helped.

I will do that on my computer first of all. Maybe later I will use Github. SQL is not properly for programming, just to manage the data and the database. PostgreSQL has the procedural language pl/pgsql that can do complicated tasks and sharing scripts on github can help me to study that. Thanks.

@stringer321 yes what i meant by above response is use postgres or mysql to create small projects and that will make use of the concepts learned in DBMS course.

You are right, I will need to allocate time for studying and time for online activity. Mylotting I think can help as long as it's not about other subjects.

Practice is the best way to learn. Try to make a simple application with the database as the backend and some other tool as the Frontend. Post your queries on Stackoverflow. There is a site Dzine which covers many Tech topics in a nice way. There could be some good Ppts on LinkedIn. If you need guidance in Oracle, you can message me as well.

Many people don't fit to regular schools, I know school is not for everybody. Don't you learn anything alone as a hobby ? Maybe an art? Painting ? You can pick up anything and read about it on the internet, watch video guides. Many things that we learn, we learn in real life and not at school.

@BelleStarr The genealogy is interesting, how do you study genealogy ? Do you interview people ? What is the exercise class all about ? what exactly do you do there ? What blogs do you have ? Maybe writing a blog is a modern way of studying so you actually help me very much :-)
