I'm looking at colleges right now, and, while I have whittled it down to the short list (5) I don't know how to get any farther. They're 2 state schools, both fairly close to home, and 3 private schools, which are across the country. I've gone over their websites, and visited the two near me, but am no closer to figuring out where I want to go.
Any suggestions for criteria I should look for? What's going to be really important once I get there?

The most important factor in determining your decision is financial cost.

Not necessarily, bro, every college has different curriculum, they learn from different books, for example, in Bs.c in computer sciences, different universities teach differently in my country, some choose C language, some choose JAVA (as an introduction to computer sciences course) so, if I choose one college over the other, maybe I will have problems learning Java instead of C that I already know...
Some universities offer better help for students and others don't help much for the student.
Some send the material in mail and don't require you to attend to meetings, and some require you to come to class.

Have you heard about Scholly? It is a free app that can help you find scholarships.

It would depend on what are your priorities. For example, if someone in your place has some financial difficulty, his priority would probably costs. Or if the priority is gained knowledge, then look at the curriculum. If the priority is convenience, then look at the location. Try to look deeper on what are your priorities, I think it would help in your decision.

Don't know what your major is but the University of Miami is a good institution. The other plus is that it's in Miami, Florida which a half hour plane ride to The Bahamas. My friends went there during one of the breaks. (I think it was Spring break.) I couldn't go with them because I didn't have the money. They had a good time though!

Having no idea of the system in the US, I can't be any help. Hopefully someone will have some handy tips for you.
