Do You Enjoy Classical Music?

Some of the most beautiful music, I think, is the classical style of music. It can be very soothing to just sit and listen to. I also enjoy listening to it when I’m driving. I’ve learned to recognize some of the great composers by their music style but I still have a lot to learn. I have several CDs that I listen to when I’m driving and sometimes I listen to these CDs at home when I’m cleaning up the kitchen or now sometimes when I’m coloring in my “ADULT” coloring book. The combination of soothing music and coloring can be very calming. Since I’ve retired, I don’t have much to be anxious about, but I still enjoy listening to the music. What are known as “the 3 B’s” are my favorites, I think. Bach, Beethoven, and Brahams. Brahams wrote many lullabies for babies, so a person would expect those, in particular to be soothing. Do you ever listen to classical music?

@IreneVincent actually I haven't listened to any classical music in a long time. You make me want to have a listen and I will. My source for all kinds of music is YouTube.

Some people don't care for classical music. I really enjoy it myself. To each his own.

As a child, I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents who were big classical fans. I think the closest my grandfather ever got to pop music was light opera, military marches and some tame trad jazz. At 13 I became fascinated by pop then rock and folk and left classical behind...mostly. But I still hear pieces I recognise from childhood am very grateful that I was exposed to them, especially Tchaikovsky's Andante Cantabile.

I like rock music from the 50s. Doo Wop music is my favorite, but there are songs from many different decades that I also enjoy. Classical music is what I enjoy to relax. It was nice that your grandparents introduced you to classical music. At least you have that background and can recognize some pieces.

@IreneVincent Your post yesterday inspired me to seek out a You Tube video of the piece I mentioned and I watched a video of Yo Yo Mar playing it.

I sometimes listen to classical music but I have no knowledge about composers. I usually listen to "happy" melodies, like the Can Can or the Ride of the Valkyries.

@IreneVincent Well, yes, it's orchestral and "powerful".

@sabtraversa Powerful is probably a better description.

I don't know a whole lot about the composers either, but I do enjoy listening to the music. Can Can I'm familiar with and I think I've heard of the Ride of the Valkyries, but don't remember it. I'll have to find it on line and listen to it again. It's rather boisterous if I remember correctly.

Funny that you should ask lol... I used to put the radio on before I fell asleep to what I thought would be soothing classical music. All was going well until the cymbals clanged together. ;)

Yes, I like Chopin and Mozart too. There is so much to choose from. I think it's wonderful that we still have all this beautiful music that was written on paper before there was any way to record it. Orchestras today have recorded all this beautiful music for the listening ear. The whole process of transferring the music from where the composers had written it on paper, to musical instruments in a huge orchestra is quite amazing when you think about it.

Yes. I prefer Russian music, like Stravinsky's composition.
