I Feel Like A Babysitter Online: Can You Believe That?!?

I am not whining about being an online teacher. It has been a month that some of the young students are having their summer vacation. I just feel like an online babysitter. Most of their parents are at work all day long and their children were left at home. Having classes with these young students daily made me feel like their parent. Technicality, I think I am their parent while teaching them. I am not sure if it is a good idea to let their child be left alone in the resident. What do you think? Image Credit: pixabay.com

I don't think it is a good idea at all but sometimes parents have little option. Different cultures would view this differently too probably.

I think it is a Japan/Korea/Taiwan thing, Parents there are more trusting of their children and were willing to leave them alone in the house without suspervision while they were at work.

@JudyEv It is not really a good idea. I also cannot understand why these parents in that particular country do such a thing. @CaptAlbertWhisker That's the sad part for these children. Some of their parents cannot afford to pay a babysitter and they don't trust them. This is their option to leave the kiddos at home without any supervision.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Recently we had a woman leave her two step-children at home alone (they were 4 and 6 I think) and she FLEW to join her partner overseas. But that is really a one-off situation

It depends on age, maturity and yes I think culture makes a difference. I was lucky to have my mother helping with my children when they were young and I was working.

@CinnamonGirl Let me clear this up. These children are all in primary school. I do agree with you that it depends on their age. They are lucky if their grandparents are available to support these children. However, some of them are living in another city.

I guess it depends a lot on the society and culture. I personally don't agree with leaving kids at home alone for safety/security reasons.

That's the reason why I brought this up a discussion because it is not a good idea.
