Have You Ever Visited The Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA?

When my husband and I and our two children came home from Okinawa, we drove from California to West Virginia. It was a long, tiring trip. We started out in San Francisco and headed east. My husband saw a sign that said “Grand Canyon” 60 miles, so he turned off the main road and drove to the Grand Canyon. He said we may never get another chance to see it, and he was right. So, we went. I remember it well. We had spent one week in California with my cousin, while trying to figure out how we were going to get home. The military had flown us to California, by way of the North Pole, landing briefly in Anchorage, Alaska and putting on U.S. soil at an Air Force base in northern California. I just happened to have a cousin who lived not far from the base and was willing to pick us up. It was the very week that John F. Kennedy was assassinated, which we watched in shock on her TV. That’s another long story, but my cousin knew about a place in San Francisco that was called “You Drive It.” We were able to get a car, that someone had left in California, that needed to go to the east coast. All we had to do was pay for the gas, so we did it. Our little side trip to the Grand Canyon was a good decision, in spite of the fact that it was late November and freezing cold. We did see the canyon in all its glory and we visited the Gift Shop there to warm up. Then, we immediately got back on the road and continued east. I barely remember any other part of the trip. We were totally exhausted and down to our last twenty dollars when we arrived at the home of my parents over a week later. We had no credit cards back then and no cell phone. Can you imagine? But, at least we got to see the Grand Canyon.

I didn't get the chance to visit Grand Canyon when I was there but my aunt recently came back from Arizona and she visited the Grand Canyon. The view there is amazing!

I'm sure she enjoyed seeing the Grand Canyon. It's an amazing place. If I were to come to Malaysia, what would you recommend that I should see there?

When I was 16, my mom wanted with my sister and I for her birthday. So we all made the trip there. It was a beautiful place to see. I'm glad I had the chance to see it.

@IreneVincent no we didn't. We took a plane. It would have made for a long drive.

It is one of the locations in the US I wanted to visit. I had only been in California and Hawaii because that is where my American relatives live. I am always amazed by the Grand Canyon because it looks like Planet Mars.

I would like to go back and see that NEW overlook that has been installed. I'm not sure that I would trust standing on it though. Yikes.

How many miles is the Grand Canyon from where you live? A guesstimate.

Yes, I have. The Grand Canyon is the one place everyone should try to see. There's nothing like it on the planet.
