The Moveable Problem

They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in your life time, and they are not wrong, there is so much to think about, so much to do, and it creates endless problems, issues and worry. I myself have moved no less than 6 times within a space of 9 years and no it doesn't get any easier, however I have learnt not to carry around so much baggage and so much unnecessary clutter when I move home. For example books, when I first started, my first move, I had about six cardboard boxes full of books which I carted around from house to house and it got me thinking, would I actually be reading every single book? So I went through them and I decided to give them away to charity, my good deed. And yes I was dedicated enough to get rid of all six boxes of books. Now if I want a book, I just go to the library, or research online. No books to move! Then I started on my clothes, because I lost a lot of weight I had loads of different sizes of trousers, I started off at waist size 36 then I started wearing size 30, so why was I keeping trousers which were too baggy? So they went to charity too! Knick knacks, you know the ornaments, trinkets and memorabilia we hold on for years and years because they are sentimental or we bought whilst on holiday to remind us of that very same holiday. To me they became dust collectors, when they were out to show they were more things to dust, when they were put away, they needed storage space. So I began to throw them out and anything good, again I gave to charity. DVD cases, we all have loads of DVDs I am sure, but then I found these ideal wallets, that contain individual sleeves to put your dvds in. So I threw out the dvd cases and put the dvds into the wallet, again more space saved. Less bulk to move! OK so I've gone for the minimalistic approach and basically everything I own can now fit in my car (apart from the furniture naturally) and now it's a big weight of my mind when I move next. You'll be amazed at just how much clutter, how much stuff is stored away, forgotten, gathering dust that could be given to charity, donated or just thrown away! I also have a guideline in that if I haven't used an item in 3 months then I am hardly likely to use it at all, so out it goes. You do have to be ruthless and self controlled but in the end it's one less headache, probably even one less van load to move! Happy moving!

I can't help but look at my bookshelf and think if I'm 'ruthless' enough to part ways with my novels.

Personally I tend to only read a book once, once I've read it I usually pass it on to a friend, or give it to charity. Unless it's a reference book and I usually have to refer back to it. The only two books that I would keep is a dictionary and a thesaurus which are invaluable and always used.

It is a chore. Right now I'm in my mother's house, and kinda having my stuff all in this one room helps me keep cleaned out of stuff I don't need. Every once in awhile I go into my closet and take out things I can't use anymore. It's way too easy to be a pack rat!

Yes moving to random house for rent is kind of tough each year.
