Many of us have children going back to school or friends with children and its a busy time in my neighborhood seeing school buses and parents that already look like they are struggling to get all their children to various after school activities. I feel fortunate that my children are grown and have only 1 daughter attending college where expenses are now so high not sure if she will ever be able to pay off the loans. What about your family anyone in school? Any college students trying to get classes and my daughter just started this term first week now. I do feel for parents with several children planning to attend college, as its not affordable any longer. I graduated many years ago and paid off all loans. It took me thirteen and a half years, so it was a long period of time and am glad its done. I taught school and miss the children, but not all the paperwork to get items for the class. It always felt like the board wanted me to buy everything. Almost time for Labor Day and any plans? I don't have any yet.

Its certainly not easy to make ends meet and 5 children in school would keep anyone very busy. I thought keeping up to my children was hard and there are 2 girls and both attended college. Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend.

I know your senior probably won't like this, but suggest that they get a job. I really wish I would've gotten a job my senior year of high school to start saving money.

@Fishmomma but you know what, when they are all in our home, everything seems so manageable.

My grand daughter is 8. She starts school the day after Labor Day. She is going into Grade 3. She will be attending a new school this year because she is going into French Immersion so it will all be new for her. I am sure she will do well. Today is my last day of work before my 10 day vacation. We are taking our grand daughter camping for one last trip before she goes back to school. We are really looking forward to it.

What a great way to spend time with your grand daughter camping is fun. I really enjoyed sitting by the camp fire singing songs and eating camp fire foods. I can smell hot dogs cooking now with a little bit of burned areas. Brings back great memories. Vacations are fun enjoy yours and thanks for sharing about your life. I had 4 years of French in high school and 2 more years in college.

@Fishmomma Oh nice. Her mom, my daughter took French Immerson from Grade 6-11 so she speaks french and her grandfather, my x, is french. Where we live speaking french is an necessity if you want a good job.

School starts in June here and I have a 7th grader. He goes to a very expensive schools where his tuition is as expensive as that of a university student here. But we only want the best for him.

I can understand wanting the best for your son. School can be costly; however, its worth every cent when your child wants to be successful in school. Thanks for posting.

My college classes start next week, although I'm already on campus for preseason. Do you have any tips for saving money in college? I'm trying to save every penny I can since I'm now a broke college student

My first tip has to do with textbooks, as its a huge expense. Anytime you can get a used book or buy one directly from another student you could be saving lots of money on your classes. My daughter would check many sites to find the lowest cost, as most of the time the College Bookstore will cost more than other sources. Be sure to find out if you need the book or books before buying them, as more than once my daughter was informed a book that was suggested by the teacher at the book store list would't be used even once for class. Transportation is the next tip. My daughter used the bus to her classes, as it cost less, than driving and paying the high cost for parking on campus. This will depend on how much upkeep of a car and how much costs are in your area. I'm in California and car costs are really high. The bus is discounted for college students, so my daughter hasn't bought a car yet. Good luck and enjoy your classes. What are you majoring in now? Thanks for posting.

@Fishmomma Thank you! I tried to borrow as many textbooks as possible, and I ended up only paying around $100 for my textbooks. I'm also going to a very small college, so I can walk or ride my bike everywhere. I don't know what I'm going to major in yet.
