Are you the same person when you are with your family and when you are with other people?

They said that a human has different personalities. What he is showing to his family might be the complete opposite of what he is showing to other people. I remember a classmate of mine who was suffering from an identity crisis. He could not show his true self to his family most especially to his father because he was very afraid that he won't be accepted. He is very formal when he is with his family unlike when he is with us. When he is with us, he is very jolly and is always talkative. How about you? Is there a personality of yours that you do not share to your family or to other people?

I think that is fairly common with one's parents when you're younger. At some point, I reached the level of confidence I needed to be myself with my folks. So yes, I'd say I'm the same person whoever I' m with. I get where your friend is coming from, though. You can feel terribly judged by your parents. I hope at some point he is able to relax.

@CinnamonGrl Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do not have any updates on him now. It seems he already deleted his Facebook account. I just hope he is alright. His family has big expectations for him.

With my family, I'm treated as the baby so I act like a baby. In my company, I act as the leader. With friends, I act as a confidante. With strangers, I also act differently. So yes, i have multiple personalities.

Yes, our personality shifts from one trait to another depending on the persons around us.

Were you like that when you were still a kid? Sometimes I feel that I am like that too and sometimes I think I feel different.

@annierose Yes I think so, I might be a little more casual with my own family than with strangers but the same.

I guess I was always better behaved and more circumspect when I was around my parents. I was able to relax more with my friends.

Do you think "split personality" is necessary while interacting with different people group ?

The only way i am different around people is when I first meet someone I am very shy. Of course when I'm around my family I am comfortable so I don't have an issue with being outgoing.

There are times I feel shy toward other people that I met for the first time and there are times I am the opposite of it.

I think that could happen when you are young and wanting to fit in with people, but as you get older you sort of expect people to accept you as you are.

@jaboUK When I was still studying at the primary level, I was always naughty in the house. When I am in the school, I was usually reserved and quiet.
