Dogs, Dogs and More Dogs

Dallas, like a lot of major cities, have loose dog problems. People are apparently too stupid to realize that they should have their pets spayed and neutered. Since a lot of people consider an animal 'disposable' and just throw an animal out on the street because it has become an 'inconvenience', there are roughly 9,000 dogs (85% intact), roaming the streets of Dallas. Mayor Mike Rawlings is trying to get the city to have low spay/neuter programs available to reduce the procreation of the loose dogs. Ya think?! This should have been instituted a long time ago. It should not cost $75 and higher (depending on the size of dog) to be fixed. It's time for this problem to be resolved and people to get their heads out of their butts. Having an animal is your responsibility. Just throwing down a bowl of food and water doesn't cut it.
A new report on the Dallas stray dog problem says 8,700 canines wander the city's streets, 85 percent of them not spayed or neutered.

This is heart-breaking to here. Those dogs need a loving family and a good home. They do need to be spayed or neutered too.

I really don't know what's wrong with people @KristenH . It's one thing to be a Breeder; it's quite another to just let them breed.

I got one of those stupid people in the neighborhood of the rentals, gets girl dog and she had 6 puppies, lets them all run the roads, now all 5 of those puppies are in heat and /or preggo. Mom dog gets prego again and had just had more. I am soon to go back to the sheriff. I am sure there is a law about how many animals you can have.

That's terrible for those puppies to give birth so young. Good for you to tell the sheriff and contact Animal Control or the local ASPCA.

Wow, I guess I am not used to this issue. We have no lose dogs here and though there are plenty of unwanted dogs, they go to the humane society.

It appears my state of Texas are idiots @BelleStarr . It's one of the reasons I started an animal shelter here.

@BelleStarr I do not wish our local animal shelter on any living creature. They try but do not have the money for a decent building. I've heard it said that the shelter gives an animal three days and down they go. I hope that is not true but a Vet helper said it to me so who knows? The shelter did keep our handsome Beau Teak for 10 days, though.

@nanette64 I agree with you all the way.. We are lucky here in Tucson. You see very few dogs running loose here. Somebody is always with them and mostly they are on a leach of some kind..

I thought it is not a problem in USA. In south Asian countries the street dogs are found every city.

The UK does not have a stray dog problem. I have seen one or two that have escaped from their home but they are usually taken in by a kind hearted soul and the police informed. It is now illegal not to have them microchipped over here.

Oh so sad poor animals. I agree with you Nanette about the cost too. I wish people would not get animals they dont want.

We don't have that problem thank goodness, but affordable spaying and neutering should be a must in places like Dallas.

Now I know what to call my part of the world: East Dallas. I want to smack some sense into a ton of people over here. Including my nearest neighbor.

It is a real problem and that is why I no longer walk about the city on foot in my neighborhood because there are a number of strays that travel in packs. The City is supposed to be rounding these dogs up but I don't see it happening and when we drive around the local parks we still see some roaming around in a small pack.

There are no stray dogs where we live, or if there are any they are soon picked up. I can't believe a city the size of Dallas allows that problem.
