The Tomato Harvest

On this warm and sunny weekend out tomato vines in the greenhouse were already wilting but many green tomatoes were still hanging on. Since they are promising that cold weather is heading our way we took down all the tomatoes. Now they are nicely ripening in the warm sunshine and I have to start thinking of what to do with so many tomatoes. At least five pumpkins are growing by leaps and bounds. Tragedy struck today when our hot water boiler went on the blink. My hubby is considering what do with it. He of course will first check to see if it is a problem he can correct himself.

I usually let tomatoes ripe on the plant before harvesting. I am a hobby gardener too and I also have tomatoes but I havent harvested them because I am waiting for them to change colors.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Some of our tomatoes where already turning brown not red on the vines and our weather at this time of year is very unpredictable and suddenly at night it can get much too cold. In this way we are sure we have saved our tomatoes.

@RasmaSandra We don't have winters here so that must be the reason why I let them ripe on the tree. Now I remember why some scientist are injecting flounder DNA to tomatoes so it can withstand cold.
